ok you'd think changing the upper engine tie bar rubbers would be simple. right? fiddley but simple, well it was until after when i started the car - somethings definately not right.
the car would start, run roughly then stop. giving it some throttle would keep it running but as soon as i let go it would die. it seems to be running rich as there is a thick smell of petrol too.
i cant see that ive touched anything to do with injection or fuelling changing the tie bar rubbers, theres the wiring looms at the top of the engine bay, but my brother has gone over it and said the wiring is not the problem.
have now changed distributor and rotor arm which were grubby and the engine will run but still very very roughly.
not sure what else to do other than change the injection system, might try injector cleaner first but for it to happen so suddenly like that seems strange to me!?
anyone had any trouble like this?
any help would be much appreciated

I've never worked on injected Minis, however.... Before swapping out anything on the injection look for broken or disconnected vacuum lines especially if you have a brake servo. If you have a major vacuum leak it can produce the symptoms you describe and it's quite easy to disconnect or break vacuum lines when doing work in the engine compartment on any car.

seemed feesable, as was working around them but no they're all fine.
it sounds like its running a little smoother now for some reason but as i press the throttle the revs drop before going up. close to stalling each time. still smells too.

Did you refit the earth strap on the stabiliser bar?

its single point injection, yes i re fitted the earth strap at both ends,
not sure if it'd make a difference if it was in contact with anything else?
what was your problem with the stepper motor, how did you rectify it?

i am not sure if the SPI has it, but i take it off, pull the metal thing out of it, spray WD40 on and and just generally clean it. put it back on and it seems to solve it for a few days. I have enquired about getting a new one, but i am still waiting for a phone call from the auto electrician bloke.
I also had troubles with my trottlepositio sensor which coursed the engine to over rev at junctions up to about 5000RPM on some occasions which is very embarressing/scary.

she's gone to my uncles workshop, drove her there.
the throttle would only work at a precise amount, anything further and power would drop making it a very tough journey. we were just around the corner from the yard when i had to change down into 2nd, then she just refused to go, the throttle dropped and died.
seems to be pointing towards the stepper mo at present, however it did seem like a quiet journey and my dad said there was something maybe glowing in the exhaust - catalyst may have fused, which could make sense! anyway shes being worked on, when she's back i'll post what was wrong!
