My 1997 Rover Mini Cooper Sportspack has developed an electrical problem!

When the windscreen washer motor is activated the 15 amp fuse keeps blowing!

I have identified the windscreen wipers will work as normal but once the widescreen washer motor is activated the 15 amp fuse pops!

I have cleaned the earth location point and multi pin-plug located behind water expansion tank in the engine compartment. However, this has made no difference.

What would cause the wiper/wash motor 15 amp fuse to keep breaking?

Has anyone experienced this before?

I have used this car daily for seven years and never had a problem with this before!! With rain forecast over the next week I need to identify the problem ASAP.

it could be that the seals have broken and now the motor section of it is full of washer fluid. You may be able to take it apart and clean and dry it out temporarily but to be honest id get a replacement one

Mine did exactly this, if you take off your air filter box and examine the wiring loom carefully I bet you find that there is a short as the loom has moved forward slightly and shorted out on the manifold / air box. If the damage is minimal ( just to the wire casing, it's a simple job to repair with loom tape and re-fit the loom to a suitable location.

Chances are the wiring has an earth short or the pump motor is shorted. I would disconnect the pump motor in the boot and replace the fuse and try to run the pump. If the fuse does not blow the pump is shorted, just replace it. If the fuse blows again with the pump disconnected, the wiring loom is shorted to earth.  Now you need to find out where and that will take time.
