I think my battery has gone flat, so the central locking won't work. To add to this, my driver door lock is stiff and the key won't open the door. I've tried WD40 in the lock and managed to fully insert the key, but I can't turn the lock to open the door. I called out a roadside recovery company and he managed to put a wire handle into the side of the window to pull the door handle from inside, but the door didn't open. He tried a few other options and gave up.

 

Anyone got a solution, other than a suble brick throught the driver's window?

Was this this morning? The reason I ask is because sometimes the seals freeze to the door and it's not the lock at all. If it is it will cure itself as the day warms up. My daily played this game today.

The passenger door has no lock. It's just the handle.

I can't get to the battery to charge it. The recovery engineer tried to pop the bonnet release, but couldn't get enough grip from the wire  rod through the gap in the window.

I wonder if you could get a positive lead onto a live terminal from below the car, say the alternator or starter main connection? A battery charger clipped onto there with the negative on the engine block and leave to back feed and charge the battery enough until the central locking pops then charge it correctly across the battery terminals?

Before I read it was a new mini, I was going to suggest taking the locking strip out of the back window and cutting round the seal where the locking strip goes, pull the back window out and climb through, a new seal and you've saved yourself the cost of a window

The engineer had the car jacked up and connected a charger to the starter but still no release of the central locking. I also tried a new battery in the key fob.

Well you know what they say - Buy German, buy twice... Oh wait no, errrm. Well all I know is that you wouldn't face this problem with a mini.

It might have lost it pairing now then, my transit connect did that, once I had fitted a new battery in the fob I had to follow a long winded procedure of locking and unlocking the door and turning the key to different positions etc, all of which needed to be done from inside the car! Hmmmm

Yeah, we can all sit back with smug grins on our faces about this one, safe in the knowledge that it's a problem that won't ever effect our classics. That is until we go out in the morning to find that our door locks have frozen instead!

I've managed to release one side of the bonnet and lift the yellow catch under the bonnet. Is there a way to get to the drivers side bonnet catch?

I think the problem will still be that you have lost signal with the locking now, either because your car battery was very flat or because you removed the fob battery so even if you get under the bonnet to charge it I dont think it will unlock the cabin? The call out guy got to the terminal which would have been enough juice to get the door to unlock I reckon providing he had it attached well enough. It wont hurt to get in there and charge the battery fully sure but I dont think it will get you in the car which if you could then opening the bonnet to charge the battery wont be a problem.
