Splitting Driveshaft And Outer Cv?

Do i need to remove this circlip to get the shaft out of the outer cv joint?

Been trying for hours now, can't seem to get it off :/

No. Put some cloth on the the floor in front of youfor the joint to fall onto. Hold the the shaft in one hand. Wack the back of the joint with a big lump of wood. Works every time.

That's not the retaining circclip, it's a depth stop.

The circlip in internal and cannot be seen or reached with the CV on the driveshaft.

 

Hold the shaft vertically in one hand (making sure the CV is dangling inline with the shaft) and belt it with a soft-faced BFH.
Make sure there is something soft on the floor underneath everything, and keep your toes clear.
Should just pop off.

I just removed my driveshafts, and the CV joint popped free when I pulled on it with hand force.

I've occasionally had to hold the shaft in a vice and use a drift to smack the joint free. The trick is to hit as close as possible to parallel with the splines.

A vice and a hammer did the job. That thing was like glued on I think! Probably due to the milage? (56 or 156k kilometers)
