I just brought a heritage subframe from minisport but it seems to be the same old crap coating that the panels have.

im guessing i will need to get it shot and powdered. It already has scratches on it that look like there below the paint level. Would be disappointing to put it on the project and find 4 months later its covered in rust. anyone know if the heritage coating is ok??

cheers se

Deffinatly needs some form of coating, thats just e-coat on it now, I would brush/spray some decent paint on it followed by waxoyl/dinitrol.

The Heritage coating if its like the panel coating should be good but if its damaged but getting it stripped for something like this would be a good idea then get it galvanised or powder coated. Some folks get theirs painted etc but its up to you what you want to do.

I had my new heritage subby powder coated. Nearly 2 years on of regular and poor weather use its fine. Personally though I would have it galvanized by a specialist as this will give ultimate protection without the risk of damage and warping a regular galvaniser would have.

Yes, galvanise if at all possible. Then you can use a zinc primer (NOT the same as a zinc-rich primer used on bare metal) to get good adhesion for some coats of epoxy primer, top coat, or even Hammerite, just to protect the galvanising from needless abrasion and to make it look nice. Or, you can even powder coat over the galvanisation. It may then last 50 to 100 years....
