Hello again,

I got in my mini (1994 Cooper) and this is what happened.

  • Turned on engine, depressed clutch, put car in gear
  • Lifted clutch to pull away
  • Car did not move
  • Tried to depress clutch again, clutch pedal is completely solid in the up position, will not budge an inch.

Its just one thing after a blimmin nother with this car!

Any suggestions on what this could be?

Thanks again!

Clutch pivot is seized holding the clutch open, lever it back towards the slave cylinder with plenty of penetrating fluid, then work it in and out by pressing the clutch pedal, it should free off fairly quickly :)

Mine did this once, then the slave cylinder shot to pieces into the road below, leaving me stuck in gear in the middle of a duel carriageway. :s

Happened to mine. I gave the arm a few light taps with a brass hammer which freed it up. It'd been sat a while though.

This happened to me driving down the motorway... Gave it a few good kicks and freed it all off... has been working fine since but I would suggest a new slave cylinder...

This happened to me once. The overtravel stop locknut had fallen off, and the stop nut had vibrated up tight against the clutch housing. Easily checked, it is the big nut and locknut at the centre of the "wok".

What ever you do, don't stamp on the clutch pedal as you'll hurt your foot and bend the clutch pedal...

Release the hydraulic pressure by opening the bleed nipple on the slave and then follow some of the advice above.

Ok, haven't had a chance to check much yet, but maybe this could shed some light. The car will roll freely when in any gear, clutch still stuck solid. Guess this means the clutch is stuck open somehow?

Yes. Unbolt the slave cylinder and see if that restores drive. It is possible that some kind of hydraulic blockage is holding the slave cylinder in the clutch disengaged position, and you will also be able to see if the release lever moves freely.

before buying anything new or taking everything apart, try loosening the plunger bolts slightly and see if the plunger comes bak out. i had this issue and once i did that it went ping and came back out. if not spray plenty of penetrating oil and maybe hit the nuts a bit to try and make it pop out. a good idea can be to undo the slave cylinder bolts (undo the 3 that attach the bracket to the engine. the 2nd one on the actual slave cylinder is impossible to get at) once slave is not attached to the throw out arm then u can work on releasing the shaft that goes into the clutch housing. u can probably guess but i sorted it this on my mini last night! best of luck!

Still think it's the clutch arm pivot, seen it lots of times,

You need penetrating fluid and then lever the clutch arm back towards the slave cylinder, once you've levered it back in get somebody to press the clutch pedal down again and out, if it sticks again lever it back whilst spraying more penetrating fluid on the moving parts, then repeat  and each time they press the pedal you lever the arm back in as they let the clutch pedal off until it all works freely, then use spray grease to stop it happening again.
