Update,

Been making some more progress throughout the week, here's a few pictures.

Firstly I welded up a couple of the drainage holes as they were quite pitted. Cut out -

Transferred to steel -

Welded in and tidied up (no picture of the other hole welded up as forgot to take one, same thing applies though) -

Then it was on to the mammoth task of cleaning up the floor pan, (I haven't done the boot floor yet though). I sanded it back, treated the surface rust, zinc primed and then applied some regular primer over the top -

Next job was to seal it all up, I masked out where I wanted to apply the sealer so I could get nice straight lines -

Rubbed in and the tape removed -

Very happy with the outcome, I'm also going to run a thin bead where the outer sill is plug welded to the floor and also around the seat belt bracket in the tunnel, just for added protection. Will do this tomorrow as I ran out of time today.

Just this to sort out now then I can flip her back over and get started on the front end -

Looks fantastic.

are you going to seal round the jacking point blank?

So what do you have in mind for the underside? Body colour of just plain black stone chip?

Ben

Cheers Ben,

I will seal around the blacking plate, ran out of time today though unfortunately.

The place thats painting the shell is going to Gravigard the underneath and then paint it body colour. They did say they would strip the old underseal off and seal it up for me, but I thought I'd be better to do it myself, as then I'll know it's done properly !

Update,

Finally got round to packaging up my wheels ready to be sent off for the split rim conversion by force racing. I'm going for the 6 inch rim, then it's just a case of choosing a colour when I get round to having them refurbished. I'm thinking gloss black !

Anyway heres a few pictures of them being packaged up.

So, when I get these back they should have a nice big shiny dish on them :-)

Wish I could get a set of these made into splits - just a bit difficult being out here in South Africa though. Great choice!

Cheers pal,

I can imagine it must be fairly difficult getting hold of Mini parts where you are !

Certain parts yes, like original reflectors are so rare, I'd have more luck in winning the lottery. Other parts are in abundance. There's no such thing as wheel choice, let alone the ability to purchase tyres, but I need to make a plan for a set of those splits.

So glad I've finished that now, started to become VERY tedious towards the end. Was definitely worth doing though !

Also, I finally received my bonnet from Minispeed, and I also picked up two new wings from Minispares -

Just got to source a decent passenger side door frame and then I can crack on with the front end !
