I spent most of the weekend sand blasting all the little brackets and bits and pieces then painted them up today, it's like some kind of mini wind chime!

Lovely work you've done there Tom, have you thought of having some sort of 60's style sign writing done on the sides?

Interested to hear your response to this Tom. I did a photoshop with cream panels where they would be signwritten, but ultimately decided against it.

I have also been offered "sponsorship" by a surf shop here to have their logo on it....still trying to decide.............

I was thinking of getting a bit of traditional sign writing done on the rear panel but nothing too excessive.

I got a little bit more done, fitted a few shiney bits and started getting the rear subframe built up.

I got the hole cut in the bulkhead today, I wasn't sure if I was going to do it or not but the main reason was so I can put it on the spit to paint the shell. Anyway I had to cut out the old price for a template first.

null_zps9d1fe0ed.jpg

This is what I had to start with

null_zpse84d87a2.jpg

And this is what I wanted

null_zps8387d4ce.jpg

So I started cutting

null_zps56c23ef5.jpg

And folded a lip onto the edge of the hole

A bit of primer and a couple of dash securing holes, jobs sorted.

Hi Tom, I love this project!! Taking the bulkhead is something I'm going to have to do and I like you're idea of cutting and forming the central hole rather that splicing in a 'repair' panel that is available.

So on that subject, how did you go about forming the lip around the central hole? I could do with some help on this and metal bashing is not my forte

Thanks Chris

I just cut the hole about 5mm smaller than it needed to be to give my some metal for the lip then I simply folded it with some pliers and neatened it up with a hammer and dolly, with it been quite a small lip it's fairly easy to do.

Not too sure if I'm keeping the mk1 wheel and steering column, this came from another mini I have but I do think it suits the look of the car pretty well to be fair.
Instead of running the cables down the floor and over the wheel arch I decided to run the across the roof, looks tidier and they are less vulnerable too.
