Pretty much as the title says, if I fit 12x6 wheels will I need to cut the wings to allow for the wider wheel?

I'm pretty sure you do, but you may get away with it.

You will need to trim some material from the front to clear when the wheel turns.

It'll be no different, 13 inch wheels and 12 inch wheels are pretty much the same diameter as the tyres even it out (13 inch have thinner tyres) You mainly need to cut the arches due to the width of the wheel (6 inches in your case)

I run 12x6 without having cut the wings without problems. I run ao48rs which are lower profile than most 165s so the overall diameter is smaller which may have something to do with it. Clearance is tight (about 3mm) but ok.

I would think you may have to trim the arches a little, as disks sit wider than drums.
