Looking at the mini time line, it says that from Oct 1991 mini SPi was launched but I have a 1991 Cooper, which is a carb model and was told by the previous owner that it's the RSP, so I'm slightly confused as the date of first registration for my car is 14/10/1991. Can anyone please shed some light on this and let me know if there is way to confirm with DVLA or another organisation to see if it's a RSP?

The RSP was only made in 1990. If your car is the one in your avatar then it might look like an RSP because a sunroof was standard but it was also an option on the mainstream. The black wheel arch extensions, white wing mirrors and lack of spotlights suggest yours is a mainstream. The mainstream Cooper was the only other carb Cooper and about 20,000 were made compared with only 1650 RSPs.
Full details on how to recognise an RSP can be found at:

Thanks guys for your help with this.

Looking at the website and the chassis/engine #s, it's seems like its a mainstream cooper as the chassis and engine number do not follow the RSP convention. e.g. it's BDD instead of BAD. Otherwise a lot of other things match as well but someone may have tried to make it look like a RSP. What confuses me is that the timeline says that mini SPi was launched in Oct 1991 but this is a carb model.

Alas, it's not what I thought it was but nonetheless, it's a cooper carb and still quite desireable. I believe they are still worth around 4-5k in good condition.

Yes. A Rover Cooper carb is very desirable. Mike Cooper said so himself. Surprisingly the mainstreams appear to be quite rare now despite the production numbers. It was only by chance that I ended up with an RSP when all I wanted was a carb Cooper of either type. You must have one of the last mainstreams and that is worth something.
