Ran out of welding gas and having difficulty getting more at the mo, so decided to start the strip down of the donor car......

Engine first,

bit brutal, but did the job.... the large amount of oil splashed around helped!

have a theory that the car has been raced/rallied, or made to do so, because I have:
Hi-lo's all round,
adjustable front tie-rods,
solid and poly front subframe mounts
As yet unidentified exhaust downpipe,
Stainless from cat - back
possibly unoriginal head, (no by-pass at all?)
a red 1275 block,
and a light green (very old?) gearbox.

Theres various other little things make me wonder, but anyway. looking for help identifying what I do

have... Please.

Engine no - 12A2EF77 - Managed to get all the correct thing on Guessworks for that.
Block - WFM1024 NW -  Believe that's just the id no for a 1275 block?
Gearbox  - A/B2 4              DAM
                BC & M             5626

What do all these numbers tell me? of the other 2 gearboxes I have, neither are the same, is there a gearbox identifier on here like guessworks engine one?

Head - number on clutch end 12G9403
              although, could be   12G946B

Also number behind thermostat displayed as  "304" with a D below it.

I'd on piston top, big A, and 21963 P4 Y12 1D3

Can anyone identify any of that and tell me if I have anything odd or special or am I just being a bit hopeful?

and maybe some photos tomorrow if I can get them on.

Thanks in advance, James.

The gearboxes are just casting and part numbers, it is the part number of the case, and bears no relation to the contents, ie gears and final drive, so by definition are fairly useless.

Head casting is 12G940B

essentially you have a late model A+ engine from an SPi Cooper.... so nothing special.

Cheers lads, Its all one big learning experience,

Any idea why the gearbox is green and the Block is red? possible its been changed I assume, or more likely someone just got a bit happy with a spray can?

hears sum good news regards the head,,,WFM 1024 (for the 1275's) or WFM 1026 ( for the 998's) it also indicates that the engine is fitted with unleaded head ( 1989-on), IF the casting number is located at the back of the engine, it suggests pre-1989 with the unleaded head. This id applies to Aplus engine type
