This really is a shame, especially at this time of year. Like Mini Cheddars, I love stormy and bad weather of any kind, but the power of nature can never be forgotten. In this case it may have been down to someone's error or oversight, in which case you might be able to claim if its an official body?

Its a good thing that the mini community sees everyone as  a friend from the start, but for me until you have met people, you are still strangers. This makes this all the more remarkable that so many people are willing to help a stranger however they can. Its a good quality and actually gives you hope in man kind. I'm sure it exists in many walks of life other than the mini community but nevertheless, it is good to see.

I hope that you can fix this as soon as possible and get back on your feet.

In some countries Christmas is already over but in the UK theres just over one hour to go. Give generously everybody, spare a pound, it ALL adds up!

Sorry to read this, Mother Nature can be a frightening force and must have been quite scary.
Glad to read that you are picking up the pieces (literally), happy to make a donation to help although we have never met ; you need a bit of good fortune!

Good luck mate

Thanks mate.

The blame falls squarely with the council or highways agency, whoever of the two is responsible for keeping the brook clear. They knew it was blocked and that it had been flooded a few days prior to what happened to us as they closed the footpath that runs alongside as well as us reporting it. However they didn't bother coming back to clear it. We knew it was blocked but had no idea it would come to this!

We will see what they have to say next week but i don't think they will be willing to help or accept responsibility.

But hey ho thats the council for you.

Cheers

Ben

Unbelievable! No words can describe how i feel. Just can't stop thinking about everyone on here and have been a wreck all day up and down!

People have been so generous.

Tomorrow the fun begins with getting the flat clear ready for the cleaning crew. We are also going to hose off the Mini, clean up all my hand tools etc and skip a load more stuff.

I will add photos of the mini once it is out before and after hosing, Then i will arange to have it dipped or shot blasted.

Which would be best do you think? Obviously i want all the s**t out from every crevice and inside x members etc.

Cheers

Ben

Thankyou for your kind words and your donation. It will be used wisely to get the mini saved and for everyone involved i will be posting up copies of all invoices so everyone can see where the money has been spent.

Cheers

Ben

Looks like at the end of Christmas day we have raised a total of £410 with the most recent being that of Peter (Petrol).

Well done TMF, you should be proud. What an amazing achievement and so many kind gestures from so many members.

Have fun with it Ben! You deserve it mate.

All donations are obviously still more than welcome to the email Bensfloodfund@yahoo.co.uk

Merry Christmas and have a great boxing day everybody.

The pics say it all and I'm gutted for you. I have made a donation and am happy to help. As far as the mini goes, I wouldn't rush in. The main thing is to dry it out if you can. If you need some advice on the best course of action then drop me a PM.

Try to keep your chin up, things will get sorted eventually and as you have seen by the response on this thread, we are thinking of you.

Good luck Ben

Pete

My thanks go out to everyone for their kind and supportive words as well as most generous donations from so many people.

Thank you to Pete for the donation as well as the offer of advice to save the Mini and no doubt with his expertise on fighting rust, it will all be fine.

Once again though, thanks to all you are all one in a million. This website is just full of such kind hearted people and unlike any other club/forum i have ever been part of and i am extremely proud to be part of it.

Love to all.

Ben

Hi Ben

I have worked as a Highway consultant for most of the Highway Authorities in Essex, Suffolk, East and North London. The Highway Authorities do not take responsibility for water courses. We sometimes clear them if they are endangering the public using the Highway or close the Highway in Emergencies like this. Sorry but they will not take responsibility on your case. Responsibility for small brooks and ditches are those of the adjacent land owner. Sadly farmers very rarely live near the land they farm so very rarely fill the need to clear their ditches until we threaten them with a big bill for clearing their ditches; obviously some are better than others. If I was you you I would try the Environment Agency first as they are responsible for rivers and see who they point the finger at.

Hope this helps.

Jason
