A quick note to everyone who has commented, donated and generally offered support on here.

 

Ben came to meet me for a coffee and a chat the other week, and he was amazed, overwhelmed and so appreciative of the generosity of TMF members! 

 

I for one am proud to be part of the TMF family!

I'm still at the stage where i'm sorting through all of the parts. Most of them are covered in mud so its the gruelling task of cleaning every last bit by hand.

The main pain is the fact that all of the nuts and bolts to put the thing back together re no longer sorted and labelled, they are just a mass of orange crustyness!!

Might be a bit of a problem!

Looks like i might need to either buy all new fixings or just find a scrapper mini from somewhere cheap that can donate its fixings!

 

Need to take a look at the engine soon as that was stored with the head and all of the ancillaries removed so i bet that is well on the way to crusty inside

I am just about to make a start on the Mini, removing some of the surface rust that has formed.

I will be updating my build thread with the information and pictures so anyone feel free to check it out. The link is in my Signature.

Check out cleaning off rust from metal parts ie bolts etc with a soak in vinegar

Luckily, most of the trim was in my mum's loft so it's ok.

The drivers seat however was on the garage floor under the workbench so really got it bad (covered in thick mud and ringing wet)

I have peeled off the covers and dried them out for now and removed the foam from the frame. The frame needed re-painting anyway so that's ok.

I will need new foam though and maybe covers if i can get hold of some good second hand ones.

I have also had to strip down the instrument cluster again as that was full of mud. It has cleaned up ok but i had to replace the workings for the speedo. I am just on the look out for a new rev counter or at least metal facia plate.
