I've always used autoglym super resin polish and then silvo silver polish, buffed up to a deep shine.

Mothers Metal Polish. Smooth stuff and works in no time with zero pressure. £10 a pot but lasts forever. Wouldn't be without it in my detailing bag :)
Then just a decent wax/sealant onto it to protect the finish. Should only need to clean it with polish a couple times a year.

I've never had anything but good results with Autosol.
However if they are getting a bit rusty on the surface I posted on this a while back: http://www.theminifo...il#entry2533750
thats a good idea :) ill try that this weekend will cheap 34p cola work or does it have to be the proper stuff? Also will it work on the grill?
Cheap cola is fine, just don't use diet!

I took my grille off to polish it before, and just rinsed it down with the hose first (to remove any dirt, as you don't want to be polishing the dirt and grit into the chrome, it will scratch it) and then used some Auto Glym super resin polish (the same stuff you use on paintwork). It looked like new afterwards! Just make sure the surface is free from any dirt before you apply the elbow grease, as you'll end up with scratches if not.

call me stupid but ive always used toothpaste on chrome... works a treat and doesnt wear the chrome away
(also works a treat on cleaning up new car plastic light enclosures when they start to look tatty, brough my focus and vectra lights up beautifully)

Toothpaste is also good for headlamps plus your car will smell nice and fresh
I use 3m fine paste if the chrome is faded, otherwise some very mild generic polish diluited with tap water will do the trick.
