some mild chrome polish will do the trick, but NOT metal polish (autosol etc).

there is some way of removing pitting using coke and silver foil, but I just ended up with a sticky mess on my bumpers!

I've never had anything but good results with Autosol.

However if they are getting a bit rusty on the surface I posted on this a while back: http://www.theminifo...il#entry2533750

I tend to just rub the chrome with a soft cloth that has some WD40 sprayed onto it.  Works for me (so far).

I've never had anything but good results with Autosol.

You'll certainly get fantastically shiny results with Autosol, at least initially anyway!!  :(

The problem is that Autosol (the stuff in a tube) and most other metal polishes, is that they are just too abrasive for use on chrome. Chrome plating is really quite thin/delicate and if you us Autosol on it regularly, then you'll soon rub through to the metal beneath. I know because I've done it, I ruined my first pair of chrome spots through hours of enthusiastic polishing with Autosol!!  >_<

So ideally, you need a less abrasive polish specifically for chrome, Autosol actually make one called "Autosol Liquid Chrome Cleaner", but there are many others available. http://www.amazon.co...s=chrome polish

You actually can get pretty good results just using normal toothpaste!! It might sound a bit daft, but toothpaste is ideal because it's abrasive enough to clean, but without being so abrasive that it wears away the enamel on your teeth, much like what you're trying to avoid with the chrome plating on your metal. It'll also make your mini smell minty fresh and dentists would probably recommend it too, particularly if you've tried cleaning your chrome with coca cola first!!

Is brasso abrasive?

I know I used to use it on my dads old pajero rear bumper
Works great but don't know if it will have the same issue as autosol?

It certainly is!

A polish up with something like autosol initially to take any tarnishing / oxidation off then if kept clean just use your regular car polish and do them when polishing rest of car, I do mine every time I polish it, but to be fair it lives indoors most of the year and never sees bad weather!
