id get it media blasted or acid dipped. surface rust after sand blasting is a right arse to get out, as the rust it etched into the metal... no wire brushing or chemicals will stop it from rusting.

i am in the same situation got a 1965 cooper shell and its been blasted and primerd it had slight surface rust in places when i had it but on the way home the heavens opened and the shell got soaked and now surface rust is appearing everywhere! need to get mine redone but not sure how much it costs tho.

yeah, unless you are going to be getting it dipped ( 2 grand procidure) which gets all rust everywhere, inside chanels and out, get it sorted now.
what sort of thing you thinking? is it a big budget build?

it cost me 380 to have a whole shell blasted:)

I had my shell at 4 alloys blasted for £200 including collection and delivery. Mine was done about Sept last year and after working on the shell bare metal (welding ect) Im going to get it reblasted before I get it primered and into the body shop.
I would be worried about dipping a shell as residual solution stays in the cracks, over time on hot days etc it seems back out and damaged the paint from the inside.
A little bit of media in the box sections is easier to deal with (or at least it is for me seeing as I have chopped the shell about a fair amount)
