Do any of you know what size the bolts are for the front seat belts and will they be easy to find? I couldn't find them on minispares. My mini is an 80's model....Here's a picture of what mine look like.

Oh, those aren't mine... I just found some pics on the internet, to give an idea of what seat belts I have. Do you know the size?

They are a standard unf thread i think, but i couldn't tell you which one. Same thread that hold all the seat belt anchor beneath the door. 1/4 or something round that i think, i replaced mine no problems, just got to find your local nut and bolt shop and take that one in with you if you have.

Just don't loose the top hat washer that goes under the final seat belt anchor. I had to have them made as i couldn't find them anywhere.

Just found one laying about the house (like you do, my wife loves me) but all my tapes are in the garage and its really cold and wet out there right now. ill measure it tomorrow if i remember. sorry to be no help.

Don't just buy any bolt - these MUST be the right grade.
Remember you are talking about a safety critical component here!!!!

You'd be safer putting a wanted ad up or biting the bullet a buying new belts which will come with new bolts and fixings.

Edit: have you looked at Somerford?

The thread is 7/16" UNF, but as others have said, make sure you buy an appropriate grade.

I may have some left from my securon seat belts I fitted, I re-used what was on the car, but the securon kits came with bolts, which are correct thread and assume strength. Do you need just two?

You guys are all very generous.  However, he is "over here" with me in the U.S. so shipping won't necessarily be practical.

Google for "seat belt bolts" and you will find a few hits.  For example, the company in the link below lists seat belt hardware kits that will have most the hardware you need.

and

Of course there is also Summit Racing.

They are almost always 7/16" UNF, or 12mm (sometimes 11mm, but 10mm is inadequate) on more modern cars and need to be at least grade 8.8. They are regulated by law in many countries. A suitable length of bolt from any car is acceptable, as the properties of all but very early seat belt bolts will be correct.

The IVA test is not needed in the US, but provides good guidance to ensure your personal safety, and it is a good idea to work to it where practicable. It states:

Bolts used in structural areas should be of grade 8.8 or better. Such bolts will be marked 8.8 or 12.9 on the hexagonal head, however, cap-head bolts or 7/16" ( 11mm ) UNF seat belt anchorage bolts (with an anodised finish) not marked in this way may normally be considered to be of equivalent strength.

What it does not state is that because the bolts are loaded in bending, the far better ductility of an 8.8 bolt may make it safer than a 12.9.
