So I take it the upol is a good'n then? The reason for asking is I've been quoted 150 for a topcoat in a colour of my choice, so if I do all the prep in 1 pack, and they do the top coat in 2k, bob's me uncle!

If someone else is painting top coat ask them first as if anything goes wrong you will get blame from prep work, to be honest a £150 paint job will just be a blow over your prep so make sure you do it right or paint the top coat yourself.

Yeah, might just do it all my self to be honest too. Saves me some money.
So the general idea so far is
Etch
Some of that upol high build
cellulose top coat.
It's only a solid white I'm painting so shouldn't cost silly money I guess

Give it a coat of epoxy primer after blasting, it's safe with a charcoal mask a1 p2 I think it mentions on site, it seals the surface to prevent any rust while you are working on the bodywork, then do all repairs and filler work getting it all to shape, best to seal any finished filler with epoxy if not being top coated quickly as this also absorbs moisture. Then when all done apply a few coats of high build and flat with use of a guide coat. Once all this is flat without imperfections put some top coat on. The top coat is the easy bit and shows up any mistakes made so be sure everything is good to avoid disappointment.

If you dont like using cellulose paint you can use waterbased using hair dryer to flash of the paint then you can buy 1k clear coats another way of spraying the same as cellulose the only bad thing is all the prep must be spot on as you see everything in waterbase paint unlike directgloss you can cover scratches from about 500 grade paper but waterbase has to be 800 or above
Forgot to say you can use 1k paint (aerosol )over a 2k providing there not a stupid amount and left for about 3 days as then it aint going to sink and if you are worried about reaction of paint you can spray bar coat which stops reactions providing you haven't rubbed through
