there's a few sets of rims that'll do the job; 4.5" S rims and 4.75" rose petals are two examples, both will take A008's without the need for arch extensions

to keep the wheels within the arch you'll need to be looking for wheels with an offset of ET36 or more (depending on wheel width) - s rims are ET36, rose-petals ET40, so assume a 5" rim would need ET44 ish

Don’t worry I’ve looked at all the possibilities, I just have to figure out which one will work for me

I’ll swap you rims Tim as I’ve got flares on mine that my rims don’t need, but would work with your rims and fill out my flares  :gimme:

I had thought of that already! I’ll let you know what I decide, I’m possibly thinking of a change from Contessas as I’ve had them on since 2014

Here’s one of my favourite cars, with narrow offset Contessas and no arches

Here’s one with wider offset ones and Aussie S arches

What about some D1s? They look great on a mk1.

Unfortunately that wouldn’t be legal for Aussie roads as the tread of the tyre needs to be covered under the body. The D1 have about the same offset as my current wheels, so with discs they’d be about 25mm wider per side. I’d need something like:
10x5 with about +40 offset
10x4.5 with about +30-35 offset

I can see now the big difference in offset between yours and mine Tim - it's lot more than I thought:

Can see here that I don't need flares:

Pic of the caliper - you can see it's a tight fit, but just a bit of filing down below the bleed nipple was all that was needed:

Thanks for the photos Clip!

I'm not 100% sure I want to modify my calipers like that, I might just try and track down some wheels that'll bolt right on. That'll be a surprise for later!

Be keen to see what you end up with Tim. I'd like to replace mine, but I'd love to get rid of the flares too. And just looking at that photo of mine has reminded me I have to put the overiders back on too!

I will be selling these wheels once I've got the brakes all ready to go.. They might be with or without tyres depending on what I can find, as they only have 1000km or so on them so I might just move them onto the next set. That's all a little while off yet anyway

These protruding wheels would also get you in trouble with the style police for commiting a serious offence against good taste :X

They look good with some wheel arches but that’s not the look I’m going for

Call me square, but I don't like boobs in too small bras, same applies to wheels hanging out the body outline.

Me too. I loved my dad’s white one when I was 4 years old, and still my favourite colour 50 years on.
