You won't regret buying the new cones it makes such an improvement

I'm hoping so! Then maybe I'll need new shocks...

It's a good time for minispares to have a sale then! I've got an order in for some new cones and shocks. I've gone for the standard cones (although the hard ones would probably be an upgrade from what I have now) and I've gone for the KYB Gas-A-Just shocks.

There is nothing like being in a mini convoy, always a bit of fun!

When my grandfather gave me the car a couple of years ago one of the extra parts that came with the car was an old Butlers spot light. I thought it was pretty unusual as it had "BMC SPOT" stamped in the lense and it mounted through the front grille.

I managed to find a little info on them, and they originally came as a Fog and Spot pair. I'd been looking out on eBay for a long time trying to find another one.. A few came up at around £200, but that was way out of budget! Until one came up recently for £10 BIN..

I was fortunate enough to get some help from a guy on mk1-forum to get it posted over. Luckily this one is the "Fog" and completes the matched fog and spot set.

The lamp is fastened through the front grille using the rear bracket.
22814568130_1a2649fe27_b.jpg
Here they are installed on the 850 grille. One problem with them is they make the grille a bit unwieldy to remove and install without scraping up the paint..

These were actually BMC Approved Accessories, which explains the BMC stamped on them.

I decided to paint my rocker cover with some crinkle paint. It was originally blue powdercoat before I bought it, but I got it like this with the paint stripped
22213872858_0224a615c8_b.jpg
I followed the guide here http://www.build-thr...-texture-paint/ The paint is supposed to go on nice and thick and it gives a nice glossy finish. Nothing seems to happen for an hour or so (long enough to think you stuffed it up!)
22214760729_d3704d7970_b.jpg
But eventually it started to crease up and look like this. When I get a chance I'll shave the paint off the top fins and letters similar to the photo at the top.

The new cones and shocks arrived last week. I might not have a chance to install them for a couple of weeks, but I'm really looking forward to it! We did a drive on the weekend over some bumpy roads and the car is almost undriveable. Any bumps encountered mid corner made me feel like the car was going to fly off at any random direction. I also had a couple of big scrapes on some of the bad potholed roads. I'm definitely looking forward to some suspension travel and decent shocks!

I've been doing a little work on the planned 22G1128 4 synchro gearbox. It was partially disassembled when I got it, and I've since pulled it apart completely to check it out. Some of the teeth were looking a little worn and the baulk rings were a bit stuck. Luckily I had some rod change boxes with the same gear set in to borrow some parts from...

I got a bit quicker at getting them apart as I went along

I had some help to pick out the best gears and baulk rings and it's looking good

The 850 diff housing was found to have a near perfect fit on the 4 synchro casing too, so I've cleaned it all up and regreased the shifter linkage

Now the rocker cover crinkle paint was well and truly cured I rubbed back the raised letters and fins with some wet & dry and it's come up really nice.

I've also slightly trimmed an original oil cap to replace the ugly red Metro one that came with the rocker cover. Not the greatest quality photos, but you get the idea.

Is that a braided throttle cable?

The rocker cover looks properly cool.

The throttle cable (black) is a standard mini one. The choke cable (silver) came from ebay, it's a solid inner cable (no fraying!) with a metal wire exterior and nylon inner.  lining.

That's really useful. I need to add it to the list of things I want :)

Here are some of the other photos I took:
And some more here (not mine)

I also bought a set of 850 alloy "Escutcheon Plates" and they turned up this week. These were a popular accessory in the 60's

It seemed like a good time to replace the passenger door handle which has been broken for at least the past 5 years.
23898927594_1fd5858940_b.jpg
They went on easily, with just a little double sided tap to keep them in place and off the paint work. Funnily though, all the scratches in the paint are just under where the plate is...
