It's odd that they wouldn't fit tubeless tyres for your steel wheels. Chatting to the guys in our local club the tyre shops are more than willing to fit them on steel wheels over here.
Anyway the 165s have a nice profile and great grip and would probably look just as cool on your lovely mk1 :)
I think it's a liability issue for them, as they told me they wouldn't fit tubeless tyres to rims without a safety bead. Personally I don't see how an inner tube is going to stop the tyre coming off the rim if you get a flat, but there you go..
Keep me in mind for the reverse rims :)
Yep, no worries. I'll hopefully have the alloys back on soon
Hi there mate...
Love your build and all the stories that came with it.... Im about to make a start on my 62 850 so was great to have a read through.... I plan to run standard white rims and hub caps and go for an original look as you have done...
You have done some great upgrades and I felt your pain when the rubber uni gave way... you have done a great upgrade and fix on that...
Keep up the great work.... you have a very active club over there... good to see so many minis about...
Cheers
Thanks! That sounds like a good plan. I don't think any Australian cars were originally fitted with white steel wheels, they were all silver. It'll be good to see another 850 around, there aren't many left these days
I've got my heavy duty shelving over the weekend and I've been trying to sort through all the parts I have now. I reckon I've got enough parts to build 4 engines and have a couple of gearboxes and heads left over! I need to go through what I'm actually going to use and what I can pass on. I've got a cam away at the moment getting re-ground, so I'm making some (slow) progress..
