Hi Alan - I am the owner of the Innocenti De Tomaso seen at the Cowley car show and photographed by another contributor.
I am sorry to hear that you are selling it on, as you will miss out on a lot of fun and a very practical car.
However, if you feel that you can't do it justice and it may hang around and rot, it is better going to someone who can rescue it now.
I am very fortunate in so much that my car lived most of it life in Barcelona (no salted roads!) and was also treated to extensive sealing from new
Others were less fortunate, and any cars sold north of Paris stood a good chance of rotting away well before their due time as the Italian (Russian?) steel used at the time was notorious for rust - remember the Alfasud and Lancia Beta!! This makes them very rare in northern Europe and only a few were imported into the UK and survived.
My car is 1981 and a special 'Black' model finished in two-tone black, yes it is a different black above and below the wasteline. I purchased it from a Belgium garage owner who specialised in classic british cars and had the Innocenti in his private collection. I recently blew the engine and so it currently being rebuilt with replacement (correct) 11 stud block and what amounts to Cooper S inards etc. Hopefully it will back on the road for Christmas, and some more fun.
I could talk for England about Innocenti Minis, and actually wrote a lengthy article about them, part of which found its way into the Australian Mini Experience Magazine, so if you would like a copy just send me an email to [email protected] and I'll send you a copy.
All the best. Richard
