bottom arm
on my A frame, the pin goes infront of the bottom arms (you do it that way so when braking the mini is pushing on the solid pins) and wrap the chains around the bottom arms.
watch your front panel if the car towing has a high towbar.

I was looking at that. How close to the ground is your A frame( at the bottom arm end). With it attached at the sub frame end of the bottom arm, im getting less than a tyres depth clearance from the ground

theres not alot of clearence on a mini, but its worse on other cars. towed a MG ZR and that was a nightmare, so hard to get under to fit and then couldnt hitch up the tow car as lifting to the height of the hitch was bending the front bumper.
A friend of mine made a a-frame just for towing his mini. it bolted through the front subframe mounts and fastened upto the A frame with some quick release pins. Quite nifty but only good for the one car.

Yeah, I used to put the hooks over the bottom arm/tie bar and then wrap the chain around the arm and back up.
You need to retighten the chains after a couple of miles as they 'settle' and become slack.

Legally no.
It was developed as an emergency tow device. All the wheels touch road so needs tax n test.
Its not legally classed as a towed trailer due to the braking requirement (the a frame and vehicle most likely exceed the unbraked weight of 750kg) unless you have a braked a-frame as some motorhomes etc have.
