I purchased my first mini a few months ago, a 1962 Austin Mini brought up to Cooper S spec, and when I purchased it I notices some switches that I wasn't familiar with. There are two located under the 3 binnacle pod and one located on the underside of the heater box. All three are small toggle switches. The final switch is located on the right side of the steering column (RHD) and is a larger toggle switch that does not appear to be wired to anything. Anyone know what these switches do? Thanks for any help.

Pictures would help, but if retro fitted they could be anything.

Any that are wired probably best tracing the wires see where they go.

I once went to view a metro for my sister, it had switches labelled "oil slick" "guns" and "missiles" on the dash

We didn't buy that one!!!

Of the two under the speedo binacle, 1 will be for the intrument lights, the other may be a fuel pump switch.  The one under the heater is for the heater fan.

I seem to remember early binnacles with speedo only had two toggle switches. One would be instrument illumination as ace01 said. The other would be dash tray illumination. There would have been a clear plug on each side of the binnacle to let light out across the tray. However, I don't think this ever existed on the 3 instrument type. I stand to be corrected though!

If the std switches for an 850 of the day. The one under the heater is the heater fan. The 2 on the binnicale are the speedo illumination and the parcel shelf lights.
