I was watching  a couple of episodes of Beetle crisis today and seen the bloke filling the bodywork prior to sanding down.

He was using a very liquidy filler, is this what the Americans call Bondo? If it is, what's it called over here?

Just interested?

cheers

Bondo is just body filler.

Stopper is not the same. My understanding is that body filler should be used on bare metal before primer. Celli stopper is used to fill the minor imperfections before top coat.

filler is porus, stopper is used (as  far as i know) to seal the filler to stop the primer from soaking into filler causing shadowing under paint.

upol barcoat is a stopper or sealer.

it also used to seal older paint form the new paint to stop reaction of the two..

i'm no expert but this is just what i have found when spraying

Was proberly dolphin glaze, stopper filler is easier to sand down with finer paper so leave's a smoother finish and fills pin hole's.

As above stopper is a fine filler used for final filling of imperfections like pits in filler, pin holes, scratches and levelling edges etc. A good filler to use is "upol fantastic" very nice filler.

After filling the car before high build primer I used upol gold for small filling imperfections in the filler and that was quite good also sands easily.

After high build primer flatting with aid of a guide coat I used 3m acryl red glazing putty to fill any minor imperfections

Thanks for all the replies. It looks most like the liquid gold than anything else but it must cost a fortune the amount he was spreading on that Beetle!
