Hi, well it's being happening for a few weeks now but it's becoming increasingly annoying .. Not to mention slightly dangerous. The accelerator doesn't stick on completely, mainly when iv had my foot gently on the peddle. So when I go to change down a gear, dip the clutch and the engine revs like mad ! The peddle is quite stiff, iv checked where the cable goes through the bulk head and it does rub a little. Has anyone else had this ? And how did you solve it ? Is there a way I can put more tension in the spring so it pulls the accelerator back more ?
Any help much appreciated !
Thanks
Josh

Could also be the routing of the cable and wear in the Carb

*throttle cable is brand new by the way, also iv had the peddle off and the actual peddle itself is not stiff at all, it's between the cable and the carb spring
It's a hif38 carb if that's any help :-)

It doesnt have to rub on the bulkhead and dont be tempted to grease the cable.

Remove it and inspect it, it may be kinked or corroded, and use WD40 if you want to clean it and keep it lubed.

Ok I'll take the cable off and have a look, it is brand new tho

It can happen on a brand new cable (ie rain dripping some dirt over the cable if it sits loose on the bulkhead connection, or it can be even kinked while fitting)

have you used the std replacment cable or did you go for the nylon sleeved special tunning cable......the latter is the best on the market and DOES not stick........you say you checked the pedal have you got down and looked where the cable goes through the body into engine bay....and check if the hole is clear and you removed the old brass cable end from bay side I had this prob as when I tried to insert the new cabls I did not realise the brass end was there and the new cable would not seat correctly and this binded on each other....... :proud:

Thanks for the replys, I'll take the cable out when I get in from work later and see what's what, it's the standard replacement throttle cable I have :-) had a quick look at the hole the cable goes thorough behind the peddle and it does appear to be a bit bunged up. But I'll take the cable off later make sure it's not twisted and give the hole it goes through a good clean :-)
