Hi there

My mini has recently gone over 50k, and its starting to show on the driver's seat base, the foam's obviously getting a bit old and compressed, especially on the doorside bolster, but the base cover is generally getting a bit loose. I'd rather replace it now before something creases or tears, as any mark or imperfection really shows up on cream leather.

So, my question:

  1. Has anyone replaced the seat foam on an mpi seat, I know it is possible and quite easy on earlier minis, but I'm aware mpi ones are a bit different. Would someone without much experience (I reupholstered the rear seat squab of an mgb once, thats as far as it goes) be able to do it, or is it worth taking it to a proffesional?
  2. Is there a specific mpi foam? I have found a couple of foams on minspares and the like, but it isnt clear they will fit the mpi covers, they don't look like the same pattern for what I can see. A URL would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

I suggest you get in touch with newton commercial http://www.newtoncomm.co.uk/ chances are they are the suppliers to minispares. They should be able to supply what you need (and fit if required).

Emailed Newton and they have said they can't get them new either, and restore the existing ones by sticking on new foam, anyone ever found a solution for this? I can't be the only one who has wanted to re-foam a drivers seat, plenty of MPIs well over 50k miles. And no I'm not that heavy
