Hi, just wondered if anyone has a ford style heated screen, not the Monte Carlo type. I notice mini spares has one for £150, part no ms86a. If this is like the ford ones or something else?

If anyone has this can they tell me if it's any good? My fiesta one is brilliant and I'd love one on the cooper.

Any pics of the windows would be much appreciated.

Thanks all

That is the one I run on my 1964 Rally Cooper 'S'.

It is much better than the earlier type with the visible bus-bars as the total screen area is clear for looking out. I had the earlier type, but changed it to the MS86A.

Here is the MS86A as fitted to my car. You can just see the top bus-bar at each end of the top of the screen:

Thanks for the replies, I went out and treated myself to one today, spent the afternoon fitting wiring it up, bring on the frost lol.
Anyone know where to get any adjustable timer relays from? I wired it through a relay and bog standard switch so it switches off if I turn it or the ignition off but I'd prefer it on a timer.

Cheers all

I just have a warning light. That works fine and never leave it on by mistake.

All auto electrical specialists sell timer relays.  Fog lamps have warning lamps, people still leave them on for days.

Fair enough, just another question, what size fuses did you use when wiring it up, I have run it through two relays, one for each side of the screen and I was curious what size fuses everyone else run, was thinking 20 amp or do you think I should go a little higher?

Thanks again

If you have fitted this one it gives some details on amps on listing

I plan on getting one of these as well!!

Additionally I have a one off one of these for the back window. Not the thick bars but the microfiliment bars like in the front!! Never seen another mini with them!

Looks like they take 17 amps so a fuse of over 20 or 25 amps will be fine. Remember, that is 204 watts of current, so make sure the wiring are good enough.

You can see why you must not forget that it's switched on if you don't have a time controlled switch.

They are simply great to use though.

Well I had this up and running for a week now and I'm happy to report its brilliant :proud:

Only thing I may suggest is getting a high output alternator, when I turn on the screen you can hear the load on the alternator (Mine is still the standard type) and when I was stuck in traffic in the rain I flicked it on and my wipers slowed down... although while driving along its perfect!

I wired the relay into the ignition so even if I leave it switched on as soon as the ignition is off the relay switches and cuts the power regardless

Cheers all for your input!

I would have loved one of the heated screens when I was using Minis for daily drivers, now my baby spends the cold weather snug in the garage so not much need.

Don't fog lamps have momentary switches? I know all our cars do, so that as soon as you switch off your sidelights, the fogs go out as well.

I wish I could afford a heated windscreen, maybe if and when mine cracks I will replace it with one.
