Drove down to Brighton yesterday with the GF, weather was fine during the journey and the mini did us proud ;-)

But soon as we parked up I noticed my footwell was very wet, but the journey down was dry!
The carpet is still wet now, I can put pressure on it and water seeeps out, I think its a prolonged issue (only owned the car a week and havent driven through any rivers) :-p

But where should I be looking as a cause? Floor pan? Door sills? And is this a common issue?

Cheers for any help

Minis are notorious for leaking. It could be the heater matrix, but it sounds like a lot of water and you would notice overheating issues if you had lost that much (unless you have been topping it up. More likely cause is the window or door seals. They can be a pain to track down. Sit inside and get someone to hose down the outside. Look for signs of water getting in around the windscreen and door seals.

hey ya mate had same issues with mine check the following.

1) As above hoses into the heater

2) Drivers side and passengers side area under the dash where the vent holes are for the air vents

3) Check the area where the doo hinges are (particular in the near to air vents)

4) lift the carpets up and check if oyu have plugs missing in the actual floorpan (they do come out sometimes leaving about an 1'' hole in the floor)

5) see if you have holes in the inner sills?

hope the above help

Thanks guys, will get out and have a look around.
It is quite a bit of water and haven't noticed any overheating issues, but will check all angles and report back with pics :-)

I had the same problem . It was getting past the window seals into the doors and when the car was at an angle dripping onto the door cars and running down and into the car. Solution - remove door card and replace the sticky back plastic that should cover/seal the inside of the door .

Whilst at it I waxoyled the inside of the doors and checked the drainage holes at the bottom.

Update:
Thought it was the rubber grommet on the floor pan missing and driving water into the footwell whilst driving. ...wrong

Peter has been parked on the drive for 2 days, opened the door and no word of a lie, an actual pool of water 2inches deep in the footwell!! :-(

So whilst bailing it out and topping it up with my tears I now have to change my plan of attack

Darn it!

Good news!

At least your floor's watertight  :D

To fill up without moving it must be draining in, so much more likely to be the screen, doors etc.

I have found that water can get in from the engine bay. Rain Water from bonnet(when bonnet gutters fill up) ends up on the ledge where the master cylinders are, and water can leak through the ledge via master cylinder gaskets, and suspension cone access plates. Then water goes inside the sills via A Panel(rust!) and ends up leaking out of the insides of the sills into the car. I have tried to stop this by sealing the suspension access panels with decent gaskets, and renewed the master cylinder gaskets . This has fixed my problem :)

...man at his whits end here too...just had loads of work done on the car and it looks lovely but still getting water running into the car mainly whilst stationary. I think I've tracked down some of the entry points. Water seems to be  literally gushing in over the door seal at the front corner of the passenger door. Also a little coming in on the drivers door but insignificant really.

Also getting loads in from the passenger rear window and also finding pools in the space under the rear plastic side bins

Now, the seals are all new

Sooo...before put down the new carpet for a second time and before I take it back to be 'done' again, could anyone please help me answering a couple of questions?

Can anything, like a sealant, be used in conjunction with the window seals to make them water tight?..and if so what is the best... ?

How the hell do you seal the bloody doors? The doors are brilliantly reconditioned and the seals are new and the correct type.

Could it be something other than than the door seals that is making so much water flood to the base of the door and over the seals?

Given that it isn't the window or door seal problem, where could water be getting into the rear bin pockets under the plastic - below the seat belt fixing?

Seriously getting to the point where I just want to cry lol ...

Is the door shutting enough? if it's not the door catch may need to be brought in a tad and maybe the hinge holes filed to bring that in on the seal.

..doors are fitting tight and lovely...that's the weird and annoying thing lol  ..the only thing I can see that is a problem is the drain hole cut from the rubber shows above the door edge on the inside aswell as facing out to drain water away.

Could the seal just be a rubbish seal? It's the bottom section and the right one for the mpi

Strip the carpets and seats out, get in the car and have someone wet the car with a hosepipe. Hopefully you will be able to see where its comming in from.

Is the water definitely coming over the seal? Could it possibly be running down the inside of the doorcards if the plastic sheeting is missing between the door snd card?
