[Mini Cheddars]

So are people here preparing for it and if so, how?

Gusts of 60-70mph are expected in southern parts of England and Wales, with gusts of 80mph or more in places - particularly around southern and south western coasts.

 

Heavy rain will accompany the storm, with a chance of some localised surface water flooding.

I can't wait! I am in Bournemouth so hopefully it will be epic here. I love it when the weather causes chaos. Every time we seemed to get a lot of snow in the UK I was somewhere else. Every time there was a storm in Germany, I was in the UK so finally I'll be around for this one. I might try and get down to the sea. With the larger than normal waves we have been having over the last few days, there are a lot of people out in the sea that you wouldn't normally get down here at this time of the year.

I'd love to go to Bournemouth and watch the waves crashing but bit too far for me to go just to watch a storm. Jealous, I am!

Was at folkestone when  the 125mph  hit in 1987

sides blown out of houses - bits of roof missing

 

the garage I worked at in 87 (Broom Park) , had 5 cars wrecked - & 1 new car had a tree thru the middle

I don't know we used to get some vicious electrical storms in Germany. I remember one during the summer of 92 when the hail so was so big it battered an awful lot of cars so hard they looked like somebody had taken a ball pein hammer to them. And the rain was something else. My mates brand new car spent two weeks in the bodyshop.getting the dents sorted out.

 

I love storms and vividly remember the 87 Hurricane and the devastation it caused. The damage sucked but the weather was something else.

Yeah just a couple of years ago there was a decent storm in Germany. One of the ex squaddies who worked with us lives in Germany now and has a caravan up in the north. It got battered. His car had hundreds of dents in the roof and bonnet, and it cracked the windscreen. Cost thousands to sort in the end.

Got back from the Devon mini cafe early today just in case. There are some dodgy looking tree branches hanging over the coast road to Exeter.

We could go down to the seafront but we have only to open our front window to get a faceful of spray in a storm so we might do that.

My neighbour who's an aircraft maintenance engineer has gone to Exeter airport to spread the big planes out, turn them into the wind and chock the wheels front and back. The light planes may have to be roped down if it looks bad.

He thinks it'll all blow over

My car is outside without an engine on the bright side it would be the first time it's moved in 5 months

We are surrounded by trees. It makes storms interesting to watch. Sadly we have lost four of the bigs one in the last three years (the last one took out all our fence and finished about a metre from the back door). I love big storms but don't like losing the trees. The lake by us has a weir, get a good whack of rain and it just ends up going straight over and you can see the big fish jumping the dam bit to go downstream.

Mini is chained down so that will be alright.

 

My daily drive is parked as close to my dads as possible. That way hopefully the wind smashes his car into mine so his insurance buys me a new one (my car is heavier than my dad's so his is more likely to be moved by the wind than mine). Dad's is a company car so its the company he works for that will get the bill and not him (possibly the excess).

 

If I am lucky the wind blows a tree down onto the road either side of our house so I can't drive to work. YAY! A day off to work on the mini.

So did anyone get badly effected by the "big" storm. I saw on the news that two people sadly lost their lives which is terrible news.
Thankfully the only bad weather we had in Carterton was heavy rain at 5.45am for about 10mins and that's it.

Couple of wheelie bins knocked over in my street but quite a few trees blown over around my town. Didn't see any myself though.

A slight breeze and very mild here near Scarborough coast. Gale? Ha! Only wind here is what is coming out my partners rear end....lol

A 17 year old girl in Kent was killed when a tree was blown over and landed on the caravan where she was sleeping! It was about 30 miles from me!

 

Quite a few trees blown down, Dartford crossing bridge was shut.

 

And next doors fence needs some new panels!

I couldn't go to work because the whole of the South West Trains network was suspended! Working from home was a weird experience.
