The little yellow  :xxx:  you see sat at the side of the road.
This week my mind seems to have forgotten where they are. I drive the same rout to and from work everyday and have done since i passed my test just under a year ago. On this rout there is one camera. Every Friday I finish early so no traffic issues and so go a different way with two of the traffic light ones. Ive allays been aware of them and on these major routs stick to the limits and all has been well. This last week I seem to have subconsciously forgotten about them :P and have been close to caught a few times on different ones.

So my first question to see how long i have to get nerves when looking through the post is: How long do they generally take to come?
Do the traffic light cameras also do speed?

What the give/leeway given by them? as i said I were just a few mph over on all...... plus my speedo isnt very accurate.
Finally I am 18, just about to complete my first year behind the wheel (November) what effect will points have on my insurance next year and how many points is allowed?

Thanks James.

different regional traffic enforcement have different policies on speeding, i know in sussex its like 3% + 2mph leeway,

fines will usually will be with you within 2 weeks

i think you can have up to 12 points on the license although I did pass my test over 10 years ago so dont know about any regulation changes.

you will probably get the option to do a speed awareness course, the one i tried to take in January cost me £90. (i was 10 minutes late to the course so I missed it and had to take the 3 points +fine and lose the money I paid for the course)

not sure of the insurance increases for you as insurers seem to pull figures out of a hat.

I thought you could only have 6 points in the first 2 years then 12 points after. I think you only get the choice to do the course if you aren't way over the speed limit, my sisters boyfriend only paid £60 to go to the one he went to a few months ago so maybe it depends where you go? Plus I think you can only do that course a certain amount of times.

I went on a speed awareness course and they told me, if the insurance company doesn't ask if you've been on the course you don't have to tell them!

I think you can only take 1 speed awareness course in a year.

as for my only speeding offense in the last 8 years, I got caught going 46mph in a variable speed 40mph limit contraflow system on the A23, if i was clocked at 43mph i would not have been fined.... I ended up paying £140 + a day off work + petrol to Brighton to get stuck in traffic and miss the speed awareness course.

Now my first offense after 1 year of driving..... 51mph in a 40mph limit was silly and they didn't have speed awareness courses then either! still 3 points and a fine... but never went speeding like that again either! :-)

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I'm sure the traffic light cameras are just there to catch people that jump the lights when their not green

yea i thoght they were, just settling my nagging doubt XD Im normally quite careful, especially in the cites, but it was a set of lights with a camera and they changed just as I was crossing the line (beyond the point of no return :P ) and so I tickled the throttle a little more to make sure i was through before they were red, glanced down to see 35 readout on the dial... not a good sight.

2 weeks, from flash to bang, to issue a NIP (notice of intent to prosecute), provided you're not to blame for details on the dvla's system being  out of order.

The ones on traffic lights are to detect cars, if theres none coming one way then they change to red to allow cars to come from another. Same with people crossing.

There's a guy where I work that was banned from driving twice for speeding which seems a little unfair...

...until you realise that he was doing 125mph in a 30mph zone in a Peugeot 205 with nitrous oxide and then again somewhere else in a Ford RS2000 he had bought a week earlier.

I always wondered about that guy...

I'm not being funny, but couldn't you just stick to the limit?

Hahahaha, that is a good point harry :P Yes i should have, and on the whole I do on these major routs where the cameras like to hunt, but the first occasion I was very nearly hit up the back side by a woman in a fiat when id stopped to turn right, a minuet later i was still there waiting for a gap in traffic when the woman, not paying attention, decided to brake from 70 + in the wet just 4 car lengths behind me, locked up the wheels and swerved off into a ditch. After calming her down, and considering changing my underwear..... I set off again, my mind was busy going "that was bl**** close, my speed rose from 50 to 60 ish, I only spotted the camera and broke a car length.... if that... behind it. Yes I know "its no excuse" but.....
and the traffic light incident was with the lights as mentioned above.
I like to accelerate hard, make the engine sing/growl, and throw it around country lanes, and then show it off in a show and shine event. Not do 58 in a 50 on my commute to work :P
