Whats the opinion on lead loading the wing to scuttle seams

Im not sure what to do with them, On Ruby I had them sealed with a PU Sealer, but they still cracked.

James, It was U-Pol tiger seal, I dont think it really was the PU sealer that split, Maybe it was just the paint on top.

Spot on Alex, Its U-Pol Dolphin Glaze

After speaking with a few people about running some lead in the seam area.

Ive been told, because I want it to run right to the bottom of the seam and not filling all the way to the top of the seam.

I will have to get a fair bit of heat into the pannels, this may lead to some distortion.

Im not prepared to let this happen, So I may just get everything nice and warm and let some Dolphin Glaze run right down to the bottom of the seam.

I want to try and retain the factory look by not filling it to the top.

Cheers, Do you think it will be flexible enough for there? and down the wing scuttle join? I'm not sure whether to put some seam sealer in the bonnet gap as it's much more flexible.

Alex.

Seam sealer is a bit more flexible, but I dont think you can get a good enough finish on it.

I have sealed the front bumper lip with a 3M product called "Drip Check"

The finish is not to bad on that, I went over it with a small brush with some thinners on, then wiped over with a rag with thinners on.

Its supposed to be for "older" cars seams.

here is the data sheet.

http://multimedia.3m...ealer-08531.pdf

From what ive been told the warmer you get the work area & product, the better it flows.

Ive still not decided what to do on the wing to scuttle seam.

I think im going with a PU sealer, but not going to the top of the seam. Keep it as low as I can.

The bonnet on Ruby had split right on the tightest bit of the curve, When I looked at the same are on Ruby Two's bonnet,

it looks like it could well do the same, there seems to be a thinner edge to the bonnet.

We have paint

sxntgjx.jpg

Spray painted all the cavities with some black rattle cans with a long nozzle while turning on the spit to ensure good coverage

WZDjW20.jpg

FYydK7q.jpg

6KKDFcW.jpg

Then it was time to mask up for the Gravitex

nLA2zxY.jpg

fwXe5jK.jpg

Once this was applied we removed the masking and left it for a few days to the the solvent come out.

6Cef6rh.jpg

DFtx7LU.jpg

A bit of a tidy up, Ruby Two had a trip outside to get the dust blown off

3CWz03j.jpg

E1wlZTe.jpg

Then back to masking up, again.

grut90V.jpg

uovE1qE.jpg

Mixing the paint

OOVQ366.jpg

That looks better

UMABd00.jpg

6CTmaKx.jpg

UAeGvQG.jpg

Then more masking and on to the inside

Once dry it was even more masking and onto the Engine bay & Boot

Looking good. I'm starting to paint mine at the moment.

I have a question for you. What do you use to get the paint out of the tin and into the mixing cup. I'm currently using syringes but the rubber in them fails and then they break.

Hi James

Thanks.

Good luck with yours.

I just tip the paint in the mixing pot

I keep a pannel wipe cloth near to wipe up any drips

I am using large mixing pots tho

Side seam seal strip covers painted

kv4Xtph.jpg

Painted the seams before the covers get bonded on

0bqmZpH.jpg

The black clips are what came from Heritage

The silver ones are stainless ones from Mini Sport

Im sure the black ones wont hold the seam covers on very well, they seem to be missing the points that grip to the inside of the seam cover.

oMwij2y.jpg

nHZ7zfC.jpg

Ive decided Im going to have the insides of the doors, bonnet, boot, compainion bins and the A & B pillars repainted at the same time the outside is done, This will be base coat and lacquer,
