cheers sledgehammer i never thought of that mifty idea and would give me scope for a bigger tank and keep the wieght within the wheelbase to reduce body roll and plus the weight will be lower down to

Dan

I thought the subframe would be the strongest place for the fuel tank in a rear end crash

there is that too, but that is the last think i wan to think about is crashing the poor thing lol

I use the Hillman  IMP fuel tank built into the subframe - done several Minis that way

I extended the filler to the same position on the OSR as it is now required outside the vehicle

as for the rear opening what about the normal boot opening , squared at the top , with a glass hatch for the upper

if you remove rear seat you will need to brace to compensate

there was a concept - the minki ? with bracing plates to meet a folding rear seat

http://www.austinmem...e46/page46.html

apparently there is also a model called Minki ;o)

OMG I have been looking for this info for years, but searching under "Rover Mini concept" I knew it had been done with the hatch and k series but thats all I could remember and BMW swept all traces of a rover mini update of the face of the earth so I was at a loss... till now! thanks mate, well chuffed now

completly missed the latter half of this post and what a great read it was some good info in the aswel towards bracing due to no rear bulkhead

I love the idea, and that white Mini is gorgeous. I would love something like that, a great way to make a mini quite practical.

I really don't want to be a kill joy, but will it require any IVA testing for messing around with the shell? If it can pass that, its a winner! I'd love that for putting a bike in the back.

i beleive it wont need a iva as its not really structural and the rest of the car will be standard but if needed i will have to iva it and would be sweet if i could fit a bike into it

will have to get the old tape measure out to see what sort of loads will fit in

I didn't see in the write up about any kind of bracing when removing the seat and shelf :ohno: ??

it said they put in peices similar to those in the clubby estate that supports the raer of the seat and adding support across the shell via a peice running across the floor

I thought the seat back and parcel shelf were structural? Not only that, but you would also be removing the strip along the top of the boot which must also help contribute to structural rigidity to an extent?

If you don't need an IVA or any kind of testing, even better.

i was thinking going about it by weldin a boot skin in place and then cut the section out but weld a peice of tube to the back of the new door so could connect back up when doors are shut some how to minimise loss of strength

but thats all for consideration and if it didnt need an iva it woulde be great but if it did there has been more radical work carried out and still pass the test

Yes by all means, I'm not saying it can't be done by a long way. I hope it can be. Like I say, I'd love one!

yeah i think it would fit in well on the show scene and if goes well may have to go into mass production ;D would be functional and practical

what sort of things would you use it for Black Ghost ?
