been thinking at work the past couple of days as to what i could do to my mini ti make that little bit unique and on further investigation the closest i can find is the hatchbacks that were coach built

so enough of the waffling the idea is to completely remove the the rear bulkhead and parcel shelf and the boot floor and seat pan and then replce with one flat sheet with ridges down it to replicate a van load bay and this would go to up to the back of the driver and passenger side seats. then for the rear doors i was thinking like the hatchback but split in half like so to recreate van doors

Attached File  mini hatchback.jpg   64.7K   75 downloads

then to further add to the styling aspect i was thinking of fabricating some rear widow filler pieces with proper swages like van to add sign writing or such like

but anyway thats my idea and what do you guys think of it and if it already been done then DOH :shy: sorry for wasting your time but if not do you think i should give it ago as its deffo cheaper than a real van and being an welder as the day job i think it could a fun little project

cheers for your time Dan

and if any one else has any contributions would be greatly accepted

It sound like a good Idea, And have thought about it myself but I just can't imagine it looking right. Someone may be able to do a photoshop for you to see what it could look like. Heres tomgales photoshop:

apologies for the low quality photoshop, but you get the idea. I think it looks allright, might get a bit dark in the back though.

Don't think it's been done would look pretty cool the number plate would need moving as well maybe you could you a van/Estate fuel tank and elongated the filler neck to fit in the current filler hole?

seen this double boot opening car a couple of times, really really like it. not thought about a "mini" mini van before though, you could be on a winner there mate. think ive got a couple of pics showing the opening that someone from Japan sent me. it shows the tank nozzel going down like a van estate tank. I'll see if I can find em for you mate

I use the Hillman  IMP fuel tank built into the subframe - done several Minis that way

I extended the filler to the same position on the OSR as it is now required outside the vehicle

as for the rear opening what about the normal boot opening , squared at the top , with a glass hatch for the upper

if you remove rear seat you will need to brace to compensate

there was a concept - the minki ? with bracing plates to meet a folding rear seat

apparently there is also a model called Minki ;o)

cheers sledgehammer i never thought of that mifty idea and would give me scope for a bigger tank and keep the wieght within the wheelbase to reduce body roll and plus the weight will be lower down to

I thought the subframe would be the strongest place for the fuel tank in a rear end crash
