taht shell is looking good. what is metallising?

Thank you very much ! - I'm so happy with it.

Metallising, i don't know if its actually called that in english. but if you have a finish shell that don't need more welding, then it gets a fine thin layer of some kind of zink based coat, in the most exposed places. - no more rust :)

ill try to get some good pics if it  :D

Hey, great restoration! You have inspired me to finish my mini!
What headlights are you going to use? There are so many to choose from. I rather like the halo LED in the headlight body but maybe thats a bit too modern for classic mini.
I am a bit further in my build than you, but computers and forums seem bit too complicated for old fart like me, so been reading only.
Great thread! Keep it up, reading with ever increasing interest.

Jack

really good read!

Love the fabrication of your own panels and really nice fit of the front end.

Look forward to seeing more on this.

Hi Jack

I am super happy that i have given you that extra joy to finish you're own mini. !

i am just going with original classic 70's Lucas head lights. - because I'm trying to make an late 60's - 70s track day look car.

But i guess everyone has a different taste. personally i don't like the halo ones, because they are to modern as you say.

but remember, you have to build you're Mini after you're own taste, just how you like it. - it not nice to own a car after others taste, if you don't like it you're self :)

Many thanks for the kind words ! :)

Kind regards Nino :)

I'm sure the plate is the front end or chassis number. And for the holes for the cage you can either cut out the bins like I have lol, use a long drill bit or a skinny cordless one, or drill small pilot holes from inside make a template of the cage foot and drill from underneath. It's your call bud but I know of no other way or easy way to do it. Maybe someone with more k.image will pop up a post for ya. Looking good tho

Yeah i'd suggest doing it from the outside, that way you won't risk damaging your cage.

Maybe something along the lines of sticking the cage in, measuring how far it is from the B-post and get it an equal distance at either side, then get a sharp puch and hammer the punch in each bolt hole, take the cage out, and drill the holes from the outside and paint ect,,,

Dont forget to hoover all the smallest iron filings out of the bin once drilled, thats asking for rust if you don't :P

Nearly there now :)

Hi Cliff.

That sounds like a good idea :) - Because there is just NO room in the bins..

Getting soooo excited ! - but i think ill wait a bit on progress, because i can save a LOT of money on parts when I'm going to IMM :) after all its soon.

- and i also need those leather bonnet fixings, but there is 8-12 weeks delivery, so can't sent if to paint before thats made. :(

Kind regards Nino

Thnk that's the chassis /shell number then guys if there's 2 and if the cage is really narrow after squizing it in what I did with the bin legs and rear ones was got a length of wood and put v cuts in either end and used it to wedge the cage apart til it was bolted down
