Next, I needed to fit the full width repair panel for the rear valence, being cautious of alignment issues further on, this was only tacked in place.
As you can see it this pic, the very badly fitted mk1 adapter plates for the rear lights.
The next job to look at was,the toeboard area. As stated earlier, it was a bit rough.
However, after de rusting, all that was needed was both ends to be repaired, and some minor straightening . Also the spreader plates for the front sub frame had to come off, as I could see some slight corrosion behind them and the toe board.
Repair panels in
All the repairs I have done so far have all been necessary in my mind for me to be able to fit a bottom back onto the car. Now the toe board was done, it meant I had to start looking at floor pans and such, which didn't prove straightforward. As you may have noticed in earlier pics , my floors seem to be a different style to most minis, as they are a one piece floor, with no external sills. I decided that I wanted to keep this arrangement, so had to speak to m machine about getting a set made for me. When I spoke to them on the phone, they were very helpfull, and confirmed what I needed floor pan wise. They called them the 59'style floor pan, although I know this car isn't lol.
I also discovered that there were a few other little differences with this floor pan arrangement. inner closer plates are required for the cabin, to fit to the lower door steps etc, as well as slightly different lower a pillar configuration. The rear bulk head for fixing the rear subby to also has a different stiffener assembly. Closer plate for the companion bins also are different it seems.
I got m machine to make the inner closer plates for a pillar and door steps, but I didn't realise about the other parts until after my order. So decided I would fabricate a few parts myself, as I couldn't seem to find them anywhere available to purchase.
Firstly closer plate for companion boxes in rear. These were quite rusted, so I have replicated as best as I could, but they may need a little tlc on fitting. I also used a slightly thicker gauge of steel for a bit of extra rigidity .
Also the rear sub frame mounts/ floor strengheners .
I have made these 1/2" shorter, as I plate to fix a 1/2" spreader/fixing plate to the heel board , and that will then bring these brackets to the original position then.
