HI all,

Quick question, when fitting 6x10" wheels are there any modifications needed to the car to make them fit. E.G. tubbing, different brakes (at the moment I have a set of 7.9" vented discs and 4-pot calipers).

Thanks in advance!

So long as you are running at standard ride height, which is to be advised, then there will be no big problems. You may have to relieve the front of the front wheel arches to get tyre clearance when on lock, but that is easy to do.

It all depends on what wheels you have.
I have 10x6 Mambas an I know 7.9s and four pots won't fit under them. Only drums and 7.5s.

With regards to body modifications, again it depends in the wheel but you may have to snip a little off if the wing so that it doesn't rub on full lock.

Anyone know what arches are needed to cover 10x6?

It all depends on what the datum offset is. If it is the same as the original width wheels, then a 2" wide Group 2 rally wheel arch extension will be fine. Remember, the tyre width will still be the same at 165 so if the inner edge of the wheel is in the same place the outer edge of the wheel will be 1.5" further out than a standard 4.5" wheel, which could be run with no arch extension, so a 2" wide extension will be well wide enough. In fact a 1.5" wide extension would be OK.

Don't forget, the wider the arch extension the greater the aerodynamic drag and thus the lower the top speed.

As Cooperman said.
As a very rough guide, you will most likely require 3.5" wide arches (Group 2 'race') to cover most 6" wheels, although you may get away with standard Grp. 2 size.
But as said above, it depends on what wheels you have and the offset.

The easiest thing to do is to fit your wheels and measure how much they stick out, then decide what arches you require.

My rally Cooper 'S' runs 4.5" x 10 Minilite original pattern wheels with 165 section width tyres and I run with no arch extensions at all. I have run 5" x 10 with no extensions. So a 6" wheel with the same datum offset will only need a 1.5" wide arch extension. With slick racing tyres a bit more width will be necessary.

It is best to keep arch extension width to a minimum as it's easier to break them when they are wide and narrower ones do create less drag.

Aerodynamically those Sport-Pack ones are very 'draggy' and far from ideal. in terms of top speed and petrol consumption at a sensible cruising speed.

That's true, as you say, it entirely depends on what wheels you have (if I remember rightly, Wellers have a huge offset, for example) and your braking set up. If you have drums all round, they will stick out an inch less than if you have disc brakes and spacered rear drums.

In my personal experience, I've found that most 6" wide wheels require arches wider than standard Group 2s.

But, KingZog, we need to know every detail before we can advise as to what arches are required on your Mini.

http://www.minisport...-arche-set.html

they look the best because the wheels stick out just a little, makes the mini look so much better a bit less weedy
