Squared off / internal hinge doors, but I think it did have the Mk1 lights (conversion?).

As it happens, i cant wait to see it. i have fond memories of that era and being involved in F1 at that time i think i will find it Interesting. My involvement with Marlborough was small, i spent more time with the JPS team.

Apologise if i sounded off in last post but Humour cures all.

Go, I will now.

I've seen it. Very much enjoyed it. Spotted the mini was wrong from the heater. But nice it got a small role. Don't know if Mr.Hunt ever had a mini or was this in anyway a replica? But more importantly I thought the effects worked very well. No disrespect to todays F1 drivers but those were the days when driving was truly scary. Can't imagine changing gear with a proper gear stick at those speeds. No playstation gadgets for them.

Taken from "Car & Driver"

He worked two jobs, night and day, and in 1967 salvaged and raced an old Mini and bought other cars on credit that hardly existed. He cut grooves in bald tires he could not afford to replace. He crashed so regularly he was nick-named "Hunt the Shunt."

Wickepedia.

Mini racing[edit]

Hunt's own racing career started off in a racing Mini. His first race entered was at Snetterton but he was prevented from competing by race scrutineers as the Mini was deemed to have many irregularites with the car which left Hunt upset. Hunt later brought the necessary funding from working as a trainee manager of a telephone company to enter three events.

If you read the biography, there is a line on i think somewhere around page 80/82, where it tells you he was speeding in his Mini and i think he had a fender bender with a volvo. Hang on, I will se if i can find it.

I'll be back.

EDIT.

I am back. Try this link.

James Hunt biography  I have just read through it and realised it was a mates Mini. DOH

Beware, there may be a need to cover young kids eyes if you scroll around. (rude words)

Legendary Racing Careers Started at Wheel of a Mini

The Mini was however highly successful not only in rally racing, but also on road circuits, bringing home numerous wins in the 1960s. Indeed, through its long list of successes in motorsport, the Mini became the most outstanding racing car of the entire decade.

A particularly interesting point is that many spectacular racing careers started at the wheel of a Mini, a certain racing driver from Austria called Nikolaus Andreas Lauda entering his first hill-climb race at the wheel of a classic Mini near the Austrian town of Linz in April 1968, and immediately finishing second. Only two weeks later Lauda again confirmed his talent when scoring his first racing victory in a career which would take him on to three Formula 1 World Championships. And just like Niki Lauda, Formula 1 Champions Graham Hill, Jackie Stewart, John Surtees, Jochen Rindt, and James Hunt all gained their first racing experience in a classic Mini.

Niki Lauda

One of the few Formula One racers who bought their way into the sport, Nicholas Andreas Lauda was born in 1949 in Vienna. His father was a paper manufacturer who had managed to amass a fortune for his family – a fortune which Nicholas never saw. His family shunned his desire to be a racing driver and refused to support him in an effort to bring him to his senses. But Niki was strong-willed. He skipped university and borrowed money from various Austrian banks in order to get himself in the races. He started his career in 1968 in a Mini and before long was attempting to race Formula Vee and Formula Three.

I saw it last week.I spotted the Mini mistakes straight off but other than that and a tiny bit of poetic licence (what film doesn't have that these days), I can genuinely say it is the best film I have seen in the last 10 years. But then again I am an F1 nut.

Daniel Bruhl should at least get an Oscar nomination for his fantastic portrayal of Lauda; Chris Hemsworth is pretty good too.
