Well, here's mini number 4 which I have owned a month or two as a replacement too my mk2 fiesta (which I am going to miss ) 

 

It came with a 1275 MG Metro engine which is very very nippy and seems to be in excellent condition bar the clutch.

 

I removed the 1275 in order to fit my 998 I stripped, inspected, gearbox work, head clutch etc etc. This engine has been in for most of this time and has a few niggles. The crank oil seal on the clutch side has decided to leak (this was new) it need a rolling road tune up and a needle re profile. This was booked in this week, but the mini decided to overheat. This is believed to be a heater matrix issue which has caused pressure resulting in a water pump gasket failure. This is now weeping coolant slightly. So to save the hassle doing this, the clutch oil seal and tune up, the 1275 is having the clutch replaced this week and hopefully have the engine swapped over this weekend!

 

I have also replaced alot of the cosmetics in this time. It is slightly rough, has oversills etc but on the whole its not toooo bad. All taxed and tested. Loving being back in a mini. The aim is to use this till I can complete my white 1989 Mayfair. Then do the bodywork on this and this will be the all weather mini and my white mini will be the summer time mini, just to keep it out of the salt.

She's had a tough life, 18 owners to my knowledge, been raced about with an 1440 engine in her by a previous owner. Time for me to take care of her now and will under-go a small resto upon completion of my white mini..

Noticed this on eBay a few months ago.

 

You've done some nice subtle styling.......the mk2 rear lamps look canny. The group 2 arches and wheels also look better!

started hers last weekend will be rolling maybe by next weekend mines in storage . mind you not had much time this year to get it out. because of work etc slowing down now so get the wifes done then  gonna pull the brown clubby in for a restore   aiming for Imm2014  with three minis and a trailer  plus other random shows.  Where u working at now?

Im at Heritage Classics over near the big AV Dawsons building. Im going to get my white mini done. Then tart the body up on this chelsea. Needs its fair share of metal work and respray. This will be the winter mini. Then got 2 others to do and a trailer.

Been busy today. Replaced the crank oil seal (clutch end) fitted a new water pump gasket (pumps new, just blown gasket due to heater) new heater matrix. New bypass hose. New front tear drop mounts. Tomorrows jobs are. Engine bay and bonnet sound proofing, Replacement wiper motor,Fix headlamps. And re seal the exhaust to fix the minor blow. Quick clean then its ready for its tune up and needle reprofile on tuesday/Wednesday.

Been a while since I updated this, not really had chance but alot has happened and alot to happen as of April!

 

Last year I sent the mini off to Ron Harpers Classic and Sports for a tune up, I head over there after work one evening, upon leaving the car there I could hear hissing and the mini done a wee. The rear hose from water pump to bottom of the rad had split. I got a lift home for a new hose and went back to fix it so it could be tuned the next day. 

 

The following day my mate from work took me to collect the mini. There were various issues with the timing including a washer missing from the points screw locking up the advance etc. The AAU Needle was re-profiled to suit the car. This cost me £85 and I can safely say this has been the best £85 I spent. The power increase, MPG, acceleration was amazing for a little 998! I can recommend people get this done to get the best out of your set up.

 

The following day after this I left work to take my mum shopping, leaving the slip road off the A19, stopped at some traffic lights with steam pouring out of it. Shut it off and pushed it to the side of the road.

 

 

The used hose i fitted to it had split round the hose clip, it gotten so hot, the oil stunk! and the paint was bubbling on the block/head.

 

RAC turned up and got it on my dads drive.

 

Full set of new hoses, waterpump gasket, head gasket set and another oil and oil filter was ordered. 

 

 

 

 

 

Replaced the head gasket and replaced the fluids and was running great and has done ever since.

 

The next issue was this...

 

 

 

 

 

Had a terrible noise on the way to my dads and heavy pulling to the left. Before I had chance to find a safe place to pull over the wheel locked up. Took some moving under its own power. The drive flange bolts all looked like the above! Look very over tightened!

 

I then repaired this with some spare parts I had to get it on the road, then I re-built 2 front calipers, 2 front hubs with new ball joints, wheel bearings and new grease nipples. Fitted new discs and pads along with some rear brake shoes and was all good!

 

I then got onto the ignition, after the tune up it ran great, but I soon  felt a performance drop. I removed the points, cleaned them, refitted and gapped and the performance was back, they did deteriorate very fast. I bought a new electronic ignition kit and converted the ignition from ballast to standard 12v.

As of april her mot runs out and the bodywork it suffering, so I want to sort this without patching it up for an mot (do it once, do it properly) 

 

So I small peak at what will be getting mot'd as a daily while i sort this..
