I'm also in Chatham!
Me and Simon saw this whilst on a trip to Altered Image (It's just around the corner!) to look at his Mini which was being repaired there a few months ago. It was there, But no Mini on the roof. There was also another one at the entrance, which we had the center clocks out of. When we saw that we asked and they said there was another at the back. I'm almost certain it hadn't been there that long... since I'd been not 12 months ago to buy an airbag for my Metro steering wheel and it wasn't there, I'm sure I'd have noticed it!

I will also add that I don't like mollies, its always ridiculously expensive and the guys there are rude and utterly unhelpful

Hehe nice Craig well if you and Simon are local you can come and check her out once the welding is done But yeah your possibly right she might not have been there that long I just took there word for it, never knew they had minis coming in that often will have to go up there again and scavenge for parts when I've got the time!

Two days hard grafting didn't manage to get the front wheels on unfortunately as we discovered some rot behind the scuttle panel corners, I know there are more simple ways of repairing this these days, but as my welder is an old school panel beater we did it like this! Instead of buying sheet metals, he used the parts of the original wing which were still in good condition, shaped them by eye and hand coordination and then welded it into the corner as shown here, it wasn't easy and it took him some time to do but feels good reusing parts from the original car! He's done a fantastic job though and it is very solid, still not finished though but in 2 weeks time we are going to knock out 4 days in a row which should have her almost finished welding wise. Also the inner sill and step panels have been welded in, the car is jacked up for the outer sills to be welded in. Another asset to this mini we found an ancient mummified frog which has been there for quite sometime! Another bonus I have requested for a BMIHC for £40.00 and it should arrive with in the next 4 weeks, this should bring us the original colour and interior hopefully fingers crossed

Sorry for the delay been very busy. Yesterday as you can see in the pictures both A panels, Wings, Bonnet and front wheels are now back on. Many patch ups inside the car have been made also as you can see and the outer sills have been welded in.
Glad to say she finally looks like a car again and got to hand it to my welder he is an artist. I can really see the final result coming now, the BMH certificate should be coming this week hopefully.

Great news! The BMH Certificate has come after 5 weeks! Bad news it doesn't have what I needed. The body and engine numbers match up but unfortunately the information I was seeking to give us the original colour and interior was not put to paper. As you can see where its supposed to be it says 'Not Recorded'. This certificate cost me a total of £50 and I'm just where I started off at, sadly this is non refundable and the BMHT take no responsibility for these gaps being left as this is the only information they could find. Disappointment really being the only reason I sent off for this certificate was for the colour confirmation

Just to update sorry I haven't been posting recently progress has really slowed down now the winter is rolling in, if I don't update before Christmas then it will be in the new year. Unfortunately Photobucket seem to be having issues with some of my pictures so I will now copy and paste them from my Facebook.

Managed to squeeze in one more day before the new year, cleaning up welds and plating, we also removed the boot lid and petrol tank to uncover what the boot holds and here it is. There will be some extensive work going down in the new year.

Quick thing, I'd advise on getting it media blasted. It makes it much nicer to work on, you can see what you are dealing with and gives a better end product. Costs around 300 for a shell to be done and then getting it etch primed straight after is a must to stop surface rust. But after that it's happy go lucky welding . Definitely think about it:)
Old-skool-lews (I think that's right) does a very good job with all things mini builds for a very good price, look him up for media blasting, he does that too

Thanks James and will do buddy, hey Art had a little trouble getting hold of original parts such as the 12" Rostyle wheels though. As I cant get them decided to settle for some Metro Turbo wheels on ebay which will do for now. She is still quite original but I'll just have to get and do what I can for now.
Unfortunately I'm running a very tight budget at the moment and media blasting is no option for me But fear not! My alternative for now is to completely cover the car in grey/white primer. I cannot afford a respray I'll have to find an alternative for now.

Hi Deve, nice GT
I think your car is a colour called aconite, I had a 72 black tulip 1275GT but it had a geranium (red) interior. They were available with ochre or geranium.
Black tulip was not an option after somewhere between 1972/1973 in the mini range and was replaced with a slightly lighter shade of purple called aconite.
In fact I've not seen a black tulip mini with a square rod change exhaust tunnel before, only the earlier round tunnel remote gearbox cars which is pre Jan 1973.
