Hello everyone my name is Deve and I have come from the 1275 GT forum to share my project with you all! I am going to copy and paste some of what has currently been done to give you an idea roughly where I am.
I am currently restoring a 1975 Mini 1275 GT, we think she is Black Tulip due to the original colour located inside the car.

I purchased Molly 6th July 2013 from Molly's Scrapyard, it took 3 neighbours and myself to lift her into my garage from a recovery truck as she had no wheels at the time, I have been all over the UK collecting parts for her since. Now I currently have almost everything to put her back as a rolling shell. She came with the original but seized 1275 GT engine and the log book arrived last Thursday confirming she is a genuine 1275 GT. All matching numbers also so that's a bonus!!

She had been sitting in the scrapyard for almost 12 months when I got her so to be expected the sills were rotted along with the boot floor but remarkably everything else has remained fairly solid. I saved Molly from the crusher as the scrap dudes were planning on weighing her in, I told them I was interested in buying her once I'd saved up so they gave me a few months and then I got her.

I am the first owner since 1984 and after that there is no record of her, the last tax disc was in 1986. I have contacted the original owner so awaiting a response from him but he may have moved seeing it was almost 30 years ago. My welder and I have been working together and have put a later sub frame so she will have front disc brakes once completed. The serious welding will take place on Sunday and she will start to look like a car again.

P.S the colour on the outside (ugly blue) is not the original colour, as you will see in my pictures the original colour is located inside the car.

First I will show you pictures of her in the scrap yard, then my garage, and then the welding kicking in.

Front sub frame has gone in, rear lights have been taken out, left wing has been partially cut, all glass and components inside the car have been removed, front panel has been welded on, dents in the roof have been pushed out. I have almost run out of money to spend but should have her on wheels, welded and prepped in the next 3-4 weeks. The steering wheel now moves as we have removed the lock that I lost the key to!

I have taken shots of the purple colour below which is located behind the dash, pockets, bins, boot, floors and even engine bay, this is believed to be the original colour as the car had only been on the road for 11 years. I have yet to apply for a BMIHT certificate and get solid evidence of this!

Thanks Mike, if it weren't for you I wouldn't be here! I live in Chatham Carlos, it says you live in Sittingbourne which is literally down the road from me! Once the welding is done you can come and check it out, once finished she will look very close to the Marc Bolan 1275 GT.

Ahh nice one man! Not sure if you saw it but apparently there was another mini stacked on top of mine which caused the dents in the roof! Its going to be a filler job to get rid of them all now but the bonus of having that mini on top meant that they chucked a few extra parts in that I could sell on.

It's one of the places I'm going to look for an engine when I get to that stage!

Nice project! Love black tulip as a mini colour.

Bit confused though, are you saying it didn't have disc brakes fitted? It would have had 7.5" discs as standard.

Good luck!

Mike

Hi Mike, she did not come with a front sub frame so I have no idea what the original brakes would have been to be honest, the one fitted in the pictures is from a later mini model from the 80's to 90's, we had to drill holes to make this one fit.

I just happened to stumble on this thread on the 35th anniversary of his death! Coincidence? Probably!

Looking forward to following this :-)
