hi guys just a quick question. is there anyone interested in sealing plates for the k head conversion. im of to a lazer cutter bloke to see what price i can get some made for..
cheers terry
To be honest mate, there's already plenty of people that sell the plates, Specialist Components, Force Racing, Morspeed as well did them. Not sure why you'd want to produce a niche component thats already being made by several companies.

Just the information I was looking for. So if I was to commission an engine with this head on with an mg metro engine included, how much do you reckon it'd cost? I'm looking for around 110-120 hp, and I'm not too bothered if this comes in at higher rpm. I know it's possible with an 8v head, but what would be the difference in costs between the two?
To the OP, sorry about the slow reply. 115bhp is the 'typical' figure seen with an 8V head on a 1330-1380 bottom end, obviously this varies a little engine to engine. With a 16V head, your looking at about an extra 15-20bhp on standard cams. The machine process and almost all of the other components are exactly the same between the 8V and 16V heads, with the main price difference coming from the cost to buy the head itself. Depending on how much you can get a head for, the difference is usually a couple of hundred quid.

Very simply cost. I can't afford to pay out £600.for a kit. So just trying to help anyone out in the same boat. As a time served engineer i know it ain't. Gonna cost that much..i.e got head for £45.sprockets for £25. So budget off less than 1k should be easy

It's going to be a hard task IMO... You going to need to give circa 20% of that budget to ARP... So I guess it depends on what bits you already have.

I'm with Graham, plus the head gasket, are you gonna make/modify something else to fit or shell out for the Ferriday one? Thats £160 on its own.
How are you routing your oil feed/return lines? Silicon oil hose isnt cheap.
Exhaust manifold? Making your own?
Loads of other bits i could talk about, and i'm not knocking you down, far from it! Just dont want the OP to go down this route thinking it can be done for the cost of a Minisport Stage 3 kit!

mmm head gasket thats a tricky one... oh jim lyons is putting out 250bhp+ with his turbo 16v motor. and i think he is using a bk450. (£20ish) that will do me then. why use silicone hoses??? exhaust manifold make one..why use arp bolts?? as the engine will not be driven that hard why go to all the expense. i build 500bhp jag motors all day. and we have build a couple off 750bhp motors did we change rod bolts....no head bolts...no any bolts ...no. all engines are over engineened to some degree. i'm not saying it the only way to do things. but it will be a damn sight cheaper...

I guess that's just a difference on attitude to building engines then. How is it that old saying goes? Cheap, fast and reliable. Choose two!
