How do you guys get the charger belt tight enough to avoid slap?

I can't seem to get enough tension on my belt to stop it.

Use a shorter belt or use a stretch belt with a slightly higher elastic modulus.

I can't see how a shorter nelt will help as I'd still have to tension it!  I seem to have got it tight enough now :)  Just now strugging with a loud 'tappety' noise which isn't coming from the tappets :(

Shorter belt will increase tension. Think of it like a guitar string. Are you trying to move the charger with the belt on to increase tension or are you fixing the pulleys and then rolling on a belt? Also are you using a stretch and tension belt?

Its a belt supplied by vmax.  The crank and charger pulleys are obviously fixed and there is a third moveable pulley to tension the belt, hence I can't see how a shorter belt will help any.....I will still have to adjust the third pulley to get the tension.

I have now managed to get it tight enough anyway.

My concern now is the 'tappety' noise!

I just lean on the tensioner with my body weight and it usually is about right

Tappety noise, it may be the actual rotors within the charger making this sound?

I managed to push on the tensioner with a hammer handle and get it better that way.

Hmm. to be honest a knackered 'charger would almost be the best outcome.

If you take the charger off and spin it by hand you should be able to feel a clunk if the bearings have gone or the coupler is worn in the nose.

Charger span over free and easy when it was off during the engine install....

Should be ok then, you would be able to feel the clunk when spinning it, is it a supercharger off ebay?

Hopefully being a vmax unit it should be fine as i think stuart reconditions them before sale (i think)

Can you tell where the noise is coming from? video?

I threaded my tensioner bolt in the the alloy of the charger whilst trying to tighten it. I had to tap a new thread, but it was never going to hold as well ever again, so I devised a way of holding the tensioner rock solid and fully adjustable, by using a large marine grade eyelet on a long thread that bolts into a hole already in the charger casing. Works a treat. If your interested I'll take a pic

I'd be keen to see it! My s/c belt does slap around a bit at higher rpm and is on the standard pulley size.
