Good call, spoke to the local paper yesterday so hopefully it returns some info.

Skotchio, i really feel for you same happened to me about 12 years ago after that i gave up with the mini for 6 years then came back as i now have most of the tools that got nicked.

if you need any tools mate i have some you can have, and if you need to borrow anything let me know and we can see what we can courier up to you to borrow.

don't let the gits beat you.

steve

Thanks dude, I'm not going to go great guns on trying to replace too much right away until I get security sorted etc. But just the basics I can take home with me would mean I'm able to carry on tinkering a bit.

It's funny really, I posted this last night after a really sh*tty day all round. Not really for any reason but just because I had to write it somewhere, ya know.

And you guys have all been so supportive, makes a lot of difference to my outlook. 18hours ago I was just going to lock up and leave everything as it was, find something else to do instead that couldn't get stolen but now I'm thinking of better locks and alarms etc. and how to make it so I can do what I love without feeling at risk of having it stolen away again. That's down to you guys, so thank you, all.

So sorry to read this post, it makes my earlier rant so feeble and selfish.
I do hope something positive happens for you regarding this matter, yes,the law in this country is an ass and constantly fails the law abiding citizens like us, if we had the same style of policing i remember as a lad i am certain this type of henious crime would would be alot less, a kick up the arse with a size 12 doc marten and a smack round the head with a nice bit of hickory wood usually got the message across .
Bring back my grandad......... he was a "nasty policeman" so the local scroats used to say.

Very sorry to hear this....I always work on my car with garage doors closed wherever possible.....in most surburban residential areas various 'scrap metal men' cruise slowly by at least once a day looking for any metal items left out for them or dumped in building skips......I am sure some come back later or tell mates about other interesting 'sightings.'

Does not help when the Police annouce this as their policy:-

Greater Manchester Police does not investigate 60% of crimes

"The head of one of the UK's largest police forces has said that more than half of all crimes reported to his officers are not investigated.

Sir Peter Fahy, chief constable of Greater Manchester Police, said his officers were only able to concentrate on about 40% of reported crime."

Garage is behind large solid gates, can't see in unless you're inside yourself or it's a rare occasion that I've had the gates open to get an extra mini on the driveway but that's a rare occurrence, hasn't been for well over 6months.

Either some opportunists got incredibly lucky, but at the same time made some very odd decisions while robbing the place or it was someone who already knew what was in there to be taken.

Neither option is very pleasant.

I had a motorbike nicked about 20 years back, luckily I got it back. I had only had it a week and it had only been out the garage for about 30 minutes to clean it. I don't recall seeing anyone pass by bit they must have clocked it. This sort of scum make a living out of spotting stuff in a second. With my bike they broke into my mates car and moved it, got through a locked door and must have spent 30 minutes or more going through the locks.

The problem is that if you put yourself in their shows you think you would be in and out as quick as possible. These pikies are doing this all the time and are so brazen they don't care if it takes an hour or more. More likely to be that than someone you know.

So sorry Skortchio,

I had this happen a few years ago and the feeling when you discover your garage has been broken into and your tools pinched is truly awful.

Sending you my best wishes

Steve.

absolutely gutted for you man, this sort of thing makes me so angry... these sort of people will get whats coming to them one day... tools are definitely more than just pieces of equipment, a lot of mine have been passed down from my grandfather and i value them as much as my mini itself!

good luck mate and i hope you get some good news soon

by the way checking pawn shops is a very good shout, and it would be worth keeping an eye on anything popping up on ebay

Sorry to hear of this, never nice to hear of this type of thing happening. Id defiantly second checking the pawn shops and local 2nd hand tools classifieds, they will want to sell them on to get the money asap probably at a lower price than other tools like them are selling for (to sell quicker). These people dont realise what effects it has on you, more than loss of money.

Sorry to read this skortchio, it's my worst fear, must be dreadful for you.

Like you said above the worst thing you can do in this situation is give up and do something else, they've won then if you do

I wish you the best of luck and I'll certainly keep my eyes open I'm always looking out for and buying tools and you can usually tell if they're hot, I defiantly stay away from hot tools because I don't want to be feeding these sorts of crimes

Do you have your shed/garage and licence plate in your build thread that is easily recognisable? Don't forget that everyone has access to those photos and stories including thieves..

This is really terrible. I was really touched when people replied to this with the offer of replacement tools. This kind of thing really does help to keep your faith in humanity.

I think we can all learn from this though and make sure we have decent security in place to stop this happening. I certaintly have! Until reading this, I always leave my garage door open all day while im working with tools on show etc. Although my garage is integral to the basement and only has rear access, we are overlooked by a public footpath so this has got me thinking...........

Im certainatly going to add more locks to the door to prevent anything like this happening.

When I was working in an accident repair centre years back we had two guys come in offering cheap second hand tools out the back of a van. We all stayed clear of it and I think this is an important thing we should remember, No matter how good a deal seems in these circumstances and no matter how tempting it is to buy at impossibly cheap prices, there has to be a reason for it and you have to assume something isn't right because lets face it, if your tools were stolen how would you feel?

Unfortunatly there will always be rogues and thieves in this world and its up to us to try and help reduce this crime that ruins so many honest peoples lives and livelihoods.

Best of luck with everything and I hope they catch the scum.

Ben

Im sorry to hear this. I too was in the same boat dome 20 years ago. I still have not managed to replace all of my gear. I can understand how important "your" tools are. Mine that got stolen were the ones that got me through my technicians apprenticeship.

If I had spare tools I would gladly pass some on but the expense of them these days means I only have the bear minimum. I hope you are able to replace some if not all of your tools via insurance and I pray that the scum that did this get their just deserts.

What goes around cmes around.

Kind Regards

Nick
