This whole country is a joke, overpopulated with people taking advantage of anything they can, Prison system is a waste of time and no longer a deterrent, stricter laws and punishments are required, way too many human rights laws about let's start punishing these so called human's properly!

Hate to say it, but deffo not an opportunist, someone must have planned it.

Check car boot sales over the next few weeks to see if anything pops up.

Bloody hell, total gits.

What make and model were the power tools, compressor and welder.

They may end up on eBay so somebody might see something show up.

Very sorry to hear this. There's just a chance that down the line the police will find a stash of stolen kiit somewhere which has been nicked to order (new stuff, packaged preferably) and is awaiting selling on. Your valuables might be among them.

We had some garage tools stolen a few years back when we lived near the M4 and the thieves were coming out of London, stealing from villages along the route overnight and selling them on in South Wales next day. The police staged a viewing of some recovered loot and there was one fellow searching for a set of chisels he'd had for 25 years. Alas, no luck for him.

The insurance paid up ok on our bits and bobs.

Fingers crossed for yours.

Really sorry to hear this.

Similar happened to me and I lost all the tools I had built up since I was 16. (a fair few years ago)

I hope you can get to the bottom of it and if you cant get back your tools at least you can get your own back.

Thanks for the kind words, guys.

Unfortunately more of the tools were pretty indistinguishable from any other tools, Clarke, Silverline, Sealey, Halfords Pro, mostly.

Some Workzone bits from Aldi (3 year guarantee!). The compressor was an Airmaster, the welder made by Wolf.

Along with the tools themselves, the jacks and everything else the list is standing about £1900 at the moment.

The more I think about it (hard to do anything else really), the more it doesn't "feel right". It clearly wasn't opportunistic because the other garage that only has old furniture and rubbish in wasn't even touched.
They also didn't take the faulty welder, only the working one despite them being sat next to each other. Some things were left that were on top of things taken and a few items, audio gear mostly was up on shelves boxed up among empty boxes - why search for that if you're looking for fast easy sold items? Nothing was disturbed or messed up, they came in and took the tools and left again.

Admittedly, because of the whole wheelchair thing I have to keep the place tidy and everything is accessible easily - but the things that were under piles of boxes etc. says to me that they knew it was in there so took the time to get it.

Like you said, Clive. The worst part (even yesterday while the police were making lists) was suddenly realising things that weren't there or had been on top of the tool chest etc.

The thing that's making me feel worst about this whole affair is not that the stuff was stolen - there are foul parasites in the world, that can't be denied.

It the manner in which it was taken that seems to point towards someone who aware of what was available to take or an incredibly lucky guess.

There's no way you can shift the amount of stuff without a van and 2 guys - a fully laden rollercab with the wheels taken off?!

Plus ignoring the otherwise expensive gear that was faulty, the welder had a broken feed but you can't see that from a cursory look and you certainly wouldn't be stopping to inspect things in a smash and grab.

Then there's the modified headlights I'd spent 2 weeks painstakingly building, they're not worth much at all and they're highly distinctive - so why take them if not for insult?

Perhaps I'm over thinking it, it's all too easy to bolster logic and reasoned actions onto an event that makes no sense in the first place.

When my friend found out and called me, one of the first things he said was something like "Why would anyone who knows you steal from you, you'd do anything for people you know and would lend the stuff anyway or go and do the job for them anyway.".

I think that hurts the most, that someone would abuse that trust and saw the need to steal what would have been freely given.

If I can help you with anything (collecting new bits?) please do get in touch. I have a brand spanking new welder you can have to get you going again.

Its not much but is gas and gassless and cost me £225. I used it once before getting my original one back.

Minihobbymini & Tamworthbay, that's really, really kind of you to offer guys, thank you.

I'm usually pretty articulate but without sounding all gushy I can't actually convey how much it means that practical strangers would make an offer when there's a possibility (which I want to disbelieve with all my heart) that someone who knows me caused the situation.

I'd rather it was a passing scumbag that had seen me going into the garage while doing something on the car and caught a glimpse or heard the tools going. Or even just a really lucky opportunist, anything but someone who knew me.

As I said to minihobby just now, while I was making the lists out last night, trying to find at least closest match if the actual item wasn't available now. But all the while my brain was saying "I don't want 'new' tools, I want my tools. Even the 1/2" ratchet that slips half the time and I never get around to taking back for replacement" I still have the first socket set I bought from Halfords when I got my first bike and had no clue what I was doing. It was missing half the small heads and the screw bits had long ago gone a nasty brown colour but it was MY socket set.

Until I get back over the garage and sort through, this is what's immediately missing;

Airmaster Tiger 9/60 Air Compressor - blue
Mig welder  150amp - yellow
Sealey Trolley Jack - red
Warrior low Entry Trolley Jack - red
Halfords Advanced Professional 170 socket set - black box
Halfords 65 piece socket set - grey box
Halfords Professional Torque Wrench 8-60Nm - black
Clarke drill bit set
Clarke hot air gun - blue
Makita 4.5" angle grinder - blue
Silverline Silverstrom Platinum polisher blue / silver
Solar auto darkening welding mask
Tig welding gloves and apron
Gravity feed paint gun 600ml - silver
Clarke rotary tool (dremmel) - blue
Urethane stick plastic welder - yellow
Tin snips set
Mole grip set
Cold chisel and pin punches
20m Cable Reel - black
Tap and die set
Cordless drill - blue / black
Deep drive socket set - metric and imperial
Air lines
Air tools - schultz gun, air blower, tyre inflator, underseal gun, die grinder - silver
Garage fan heater - red
2 ton ratchet axle stands - red
Stud extractors - blue box
Impact driver - blue box
Rollercab without wheels complete with tools - spanners metric/imperial, full range of sockets, 3 socket drives, extension bars, angle adapters, T-bars, allen keys, etc. but minus snip pliers (instead has 2 sets of needle nosed) and 4 screwdrivers - red

I'm resigned that there's little hope of return for most of it, too generic and easy to dispose of without trace. But if you see a job lot going that looks about the same, let me know.
