Hi there, been having real problems recently trying to decide where everything should go.
I have:
Pair of high end 6" component speakers
Pair of decent 6x9s
8" active sub
4 channel amp

I was going to put sub in the boot, 6x9 on parcel shelf and the 6" up front under lower dash rail but I'm worried about the sub damaging the 6x9s so have been considering putting them under the back bench but this seems like poor positioning for a speaker IMO. So what should I do? Are there other locations for 6x9s eg. boxed or in rear bins?
I believe my options to be:
Put 6x9s on parcel shelf and if they get damaged by sub so be it
Find another location for them (under bench or elsewhere)
Not include them all together and just have the 6" and sub.

Also any advice on where to put the amp- would rather not go for boot floor next to sub as need the space.
Thanks and any advice appreciated!

The amp could go under the rear seats if there is space?

Yeah that would be ideal but I'm not sure it'll fit, I was thinking possibly under passenger seat?

put speakers in parcel shelf but box them in?

I'd be interested in this idea... Would they sit above the parcel shelf or would the boxes screw in underneath? If you know where I could get some I'd be very grateful!

I agree they would be good but how would they fit? Do you know a company that makes enclosures for speakers in the bins? Many thanks

Either would work although below the parcel shelf would be a more subtle look with out compramising rear visibility. I belive optimize automotive do speaker boxes which may be suitable, alternativly they would not be to hard to make then screw and seal with no setting putty (like bluetack) and should sound nice.

I don't but I am working on developing some which I hope to have in production in about 3-4 months time.

Just don't bother with the 6x9's.

Amp the fronts and the Sub (a 10" would be better) and your done.

I promise in a mini that's all you really need.

This!
Unless by some unfortunate sequence of events you have ears facing backwards, in which case carry on.

Amp can live under the rear bench like so:

Make sure it's secured though.

Or in the rear bin, on a board. You could also mount it under the driver seat depending on the size.

The real problem with speakers on the rear shelf and a sub in the boot is that you restrict the air flow into the cabin, you need roughly the same cross sectional area into the cabin as the size of your sub, if you plug the holes up with speakers how will you get any benefit of the sub?

Ah man I like the look of that sub enclosure! V smart :))
That is all true I agree, ill leave the parcel shelf speakerless!
However a question.... I have a 4 channel amp- the components will be hooked up at the front regardless, that leaves me with 2 spare channels- surely it would be better to hook up the dreaded 6x9s even if under the rear seat than to not at all?
Despite 6x9s having bad rep these have been highly praised! Thoughts? http://car-speakers-...ers-review.html

I swear you spend your life telling people to ditch the 6x9s and just amp the components! I knew it would be a matter of time before you told me too :D

Anywhom I'd like your opinion on the question I just posted at the bottom as you know what your on about!
Many thanks

Thanks, man! It turned out really well. Although I'm not the first to build one like it so I can't take all the credit ;-)

Regarding the amp - bridge the 4 channels into 2 and give the fronts more power (or go full active if you're keen).
No 6 x9's :P

I'm guessing you have a seperate amp for the sub, if not bridge 2 channels on the 4 and use that for it.

my 6 x 9's in the rear bins work really well crisp and clear with the components in the shelf and you cant hear it too much outside the car.....
