Hi TMF,

I really want to go for a set of 10" steelies (Not repro reverse ones, just standard steels), but I have a 8.4" brake set up.  I read that it is possible to fit spacers to get the clearance from the brake caliper.  Does anyone know what size spacers would be good to fit?  And if I were to fit these spacers, how far would the wheel stick out from the arch.  Is fitting a spacer as simple as adding longer studs, and then the spacer, on to those, then fit the wheel?

Many Thanks,

Will

It's not advised to do it as the wheels fit past the brakes after it's done, If you do do it then thats the way, Knock out the old ones and fit the new ones, I think theres a couple of threads somewhere that tells you the best way to do this.

I thought it was going to be very big wheels spacers by the thread title.

Fitting 10" wheels over 8.4" discs by using spacers is a very unsafe thing to do. It not only puts offset loads onto the wheel bearings, but it alters the track to wheelbase ratio and the steering geometry and potentially makes the vehicle unstable, especially under braking in the wet. The loss in steering accuracy and handling will actually detract from the performance which, presumably, would be the reason for going to 10" in the first place.
Not advised at all!

As info, wellers do fit with 1/2" spacers and possibly some little grinding to the corners of the calipers using a big file

Some others can be fitted using a inch spacer

I would NOT reccomend spacers at all due to suspension geometry and extra stress to studs, balljoints and wheel bearings
