Hello everyone,

My Alternator has been overcharging my battery, the first time I noticed was too late. My battery started to smell of rotten eggs and now it has been completely shot so the mini want turn over.

I need to replace the voltage regulator in order to get the alternator working properly before I buy a new battery but don't know where it is! I have a 1983 Austin Mini City...

If someone can provide a picture of where it is in there car that would be MASSIVELY helpful, also doesn't anyone have any advice about where to get one or fitting??

The regulator is built in to the alternator.....

You should have the Lucas A115/45 unit fitted if its the original unit. In which case the regulator can be found under the plastic end cap of the alternator.

I replaced mine a few weeks ago after it boiled the battery :shy: . I believe the problem was actually a dodgy terminal on one of the wires, but replaced both to be on the safe side. You should be able to replace it in situ.

Ok, finally as above my alternator boiled my battery and I changed the lot, alternator, terminals and battery!! Thanks guys... Not the only issue is the new alternator whines under revs, is it too tight?? I know it's not the belt as that's new and it's all adjusted so it doesn't squeal under load I just want to know if I'm an keeping the Alternator bearings by it being too tight??

12mm slack on the belt on its longest run, when you say whines is this under max load or all the time? slip the belt off and rotate the alternator pulley, check for noisy bearings.
