Nice projeck....The 1100 special is 1 of my fave LEs.........keep up the good work.........and do you have most of the Interior...or are you missing things.......PM me if missing parts ...... :proud:

 

Its not mine mate doing the body resto for one of the lads at our Heathrow hangar. He stripped the car down and its all boxed up so i believe he has all of the parts but i will let him know though.

Got most of the boot floor repairs complete today, just a a bit around the arches to do,

and the boot lid fits well

 the hinge panel will get welded in tomorrow along with the subframe mount brackets.

Nice job.

 

Are you grinding the boot floor repair weld completely flat or leaving it proud? Are you welding from the top only or both sides?

 

I find that if I try to improve the penetration of the weld by slowing down the weld it warps the metal. I get a better result if I weld both sides with a quicker weld but this means more grinding. What do you do?

Everything is from the top and then ground flush. Then i give the weld underneath a tickle with the grinder to remove all of the high spots then go around with a panel beating hammer and dolly.

Getting the weld to penetrate is everything. The big issue with this car is Will is talking about getting it dipped to strip all of the old paint etc after i have finished welding so the welds need to be as neat as possible. If he does go down this route then i have no doubt i may need to revisit some areas due to the underseal / paint etc to make sure everything is clean and smooth. It would have been ideal to have had it dipped first but time is a constraint here.

I do hope so. Still loads to do though so barely scratched the surface. The roof may need to be changed yet as well.

Oh Jesus that escalated quickly lol it's one job I'm not sure id want to do without a spot welder are you doing the skin or staggered pillars?

I have to convince him he really needs to change it. He thinks he may be able to bond some shaped ali strips onto the dented areas to reform the damage but you should see it, more ripples than the North sea.

 

I will just do the roof skin as i have bought a spot welder. It looks like i have access to a solid second hand roof.

Rear hinge panel welded in and ground flush and quite happy with it.

Back on the case again after crimbo. Workshop survived the storm apart fro some water being forced in so happy with that.

 

Anyway off with the right hand rear arch and left with this

although not shown this has now got a lip welded in place

the arch has been split apart and some minor repairs have been carried out to the front of the inner arch

Hopefully tomorrow it will all be welded together and then back in the car.

I have the same repairs to do in my boot when I get round to it so your pics will be a really good guide

Cheers Marco,

 

just a little bit today as not liking the weather and feeling a bit crap. I have welded the two sections of arch together now and pleased with the outcome

It fits nicely but just need to trial fit the quarter panel to make sure there are no issues there before its finally welded in.

 

In the meanwhile i had a little poke at the heelboard end and got this
