So after having already fitted one flitch repair on the l/h side it all had to come apart as the flitch i had fitted on the r/h side had a flute in it. The l/h no flute. Bugger.

So new flute is now in so nothing like doing the same job twice. Not for the first time on this car either.

Now that was the last job with the car on the spit so off it came and the car is now back on the trolley all ready for the front subbie to go on tomorrow.

Quick clean up in the boot, filling a few pin holes previously missed and refitting the fuel tank strap bracket.

Front subbie in with all new fittings so on went the panels for a looksee and not too bad

IMG_3423_zpse7f883fe.jpg

The door needed a bit of tweaking at the front so the A panel gap looks quite good. It will change a bit once its actually been fitted properly.

Did you need to slot the door hinge holes?

I am just fitting my doors and I have needed to slot mine; was wondering how you got on?

Both sides were already slotted but i have had to adjust them a bit more to get the fit i wanted.

Its feels like a major milestone Andy, its just all of the faffing around now to get things to fit. Need to break out the self tappers.

To be honest I have used a Magnum wing and A panel, and used a Magnum door skin and at the moment everything seems to line up pretty good!,  time will tell once I get it off the spit and try it all together with the original repaired bonnet and  new front end.

These are all Heritage panels, the A panel is not the best but will fit nicely once i have finished with it.

Glad its not just me :)

How are you going to finish the top of the "A" panel? I have seen some left untouched (which I like), some are filled and made to disappear and some are welded along the top? If I leave the top of the panel will water get in and rot it out?

I always weld them up then use my die grinder and carbide burr to shape the top to match the door swage line and the wing to scuttle line. No water getting in there then.

Slaved the wings on to gap the bonnet and ended up with this

IMG_3431_zps673b7a1c.jpg

IMG_3432_zpsed55e4d4.jpg

IMG_3433_zps4d386f14.jpg

A little tweaking to do but not a lot.

Then onto the the A panel and door gapping.

IMG_3434_zps6f6881be.jpg

Not too shabby but the door fouled so after much tweaking and beating of metal ended up with this.

IMG_3435_zps6cce2be6.jpg

again some final tweaking and adding a little more weld to the door edge to even things up a tad more

back of the door

So after some more tweaking and bending the l/h A panel is on and the door fits really nicely

IMG_3443_zps0de6d0a9.jpg

IMG_3444_zpsf98e863a.jpg

Then it was on with the front panel and the marathon welding session that will be the wings.

Probably another days worth of welding and grinding to do followed by the big seal up.
